    摘要： A method and apparatus for communicating amongst two-way radios is disclosed. The method includes operating a two-way radio 130 in either a trunked mode or conventional mode over an operating frequency and scanning an auxiliary channel by the two-way radio 130 to enable radio communication on the auxiliary channel while maintaining the operating frequency active. The radio 130 further detects a signal on the auxiliary channel with another radio 150 and communicating on the auxiliary channel in an intercom mode to provide an intercom radio-to-radio communication amongst all radios 130, 140 scanning on the auxiliary channel.

The audio centric side can include an option module (242) for placement as an insert enabling additional functions including camera functions, environmental sensors, WLAN transceivers, audio upgrades, and bar code readers as examples. The data centric side can include a keypad (214 and 216) and a display (218). The speaker can reside behind the display of the data centric side and has full porting out of the audio centric side.

    摘要： A push-button assembly for a handheld radio (100) is provided which permits off-axis actuation by a gloved user amongst a crowded radio control environment. The push-button (108) includes first and second guide posts (202, 204) of different length, one guide post also serving as a switch actuator. An alignment guide (206) receives the two guide posts (202, 204). The alignment guide (206) with the first and second guide posts (202, 204) are coupled within a recessed portion (216) of a housing (102) to provide tactile feedback, even during gloved usage. The alignment guide (206) may further provide a light guide (110) which can operate as a third guide post for the radio (100).
