摘要： A system and method related to dispensing and disposing medical items is provided. The dispensing portion is generally configured to dispense medical items stored within compartments based on dispensing instructions. The disposal portion is generally configured to sort waste items into a plurality of containers according to applicable rules and regulations governing the handling and/or disposal of such items. In some embodiments, a system comprises sorting stations each of which houses a number of disposable containers. Each station can identify an item of waste, determine the most appropriate container for the item, and facilitate disposal of the item in the appropriate container.

摘要： Methods for using a liner in a waste sorting and disposal system are provided. The liner includes an internal space and an opening that provides access to that internal space. In some embodiments, the liner may also include a machine-readable identification key that is configured to identify a type of waste that the liner may receive. In some embodiments, the machine-readable key is optical, color-coded, alphanumeric or graphical. The liner can include one or more closure members to allow a user to securely seal the liner when it is removed from the container. In some embodiments, the liner can include a flange, lip, hook or other protrusion to secure its position relative to a container.

摘要： In a method of dispensing and disposing medical items a first medical item is dispensed from a dispensing portion of a medical item dispensing and disposal system. An identifier is received via a scanner. The identifier is associated with a second medical item to be disposed within a disposal portion of the medical item dispensing and disposal system. Based on the identifier, a control system: allows access to one waste container of a plurality of waste containers of the medical item dispensing and disposal system; and prevents access to other waste containers of the medical item dispensing and disposal system to ensure proper disposal of the second medical item within the medical item dispensing and disposal system.

摘要： A medical item dispensing and disposal system includes a dispensing portion configured for dispensing a first medical item and a disposal portion coupled with the dispensing portion. The disposal portion comprises a scanner, a plurality of waste containers, and a disposal control system. The scanner is configured for scanning an identifier associated with a second medical item to be disposed within the disposal portion. Each of the plurality of waste containers is associated with at least one of a plurality of waste categories. The disposal control system is configured to: allow access to one of the plurality of waste containers based on a waste category, of the plurality of waste categories, being associated with and common to both the scanned identifier and the one waste container; and prevent access to others of the plurality of waste containers to ensure proper disposal of the second medical item within the system.
