The present embodiments describe methods and systems for intercepting unauthorized communications in a controlled-environment facility. Unauthorized communications may originate from contraband cell phones, for example. In an embodiment, attempted communications from the contraband communication device are intercepted by the facility communication systems. The attempted communication may or may not be connected or completed, depending upon facility rules, policies, and regulations.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for providing remote visitation and other services to non-residents of controlled-environment facilities via display devices. In some embodiments, a method may include performing, by one or more computer systems, receiving a command to initiate a remote visitation session between a resident and a non-resident of a controlled-environment facility, and enabling the non-resident's participation in the remote visitation session, wherein the non-resident participates in the remote visitation session using a display device selected from the group consisting of: a display device set, a projector, and a monitor.
Abstract:
During a voice call between a resident of a controlled-environment facility and another party, an indication by the resident or the other call party to convert the voice call to a video communication between the resident and the other party may be made. Whereupon, a controlled-environment communications processing system may confirm that both parties agree to convert the voice call to a video communication, and may query a controlled-environment facility administration and management system to confirm that the resident may take part in a video communication. Thereafter, such as in response to confirmation both parties agree to convert the voice call to a video communication and/or that the resident may take part in a video communication, a video communication link may be established between a communication device in use by the resident and a communication device in use by the other party.

Systems and methods for developing, deploying, providing, and/or operating location-based services for controlled-environment facilities are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method may include receiving, from a resident of a controlled-environment facility, a request to establish a remote communication with a mobile device operated by a non-resident of the controlled-environment facility. The method may also include allowing or denying the request depending, at least in part, upon a physical location of the mobile device at the time of the request to establish the remote communication and subsequent monitoring during the allowed communication. The method may also include terminating an allowed remote communication based on the monitored location of the mobile device during the remote communication. In some cases, the method may also include comparing an indication of the physical location with a geo-fencing rule and taking a predetermined action in response to the comparison.

Activity and aggression detection and monitoring in a controlled-environment facility includes gathering audio, video and/or telemetry input from one or more dedicated and/or ad hoc sensors disposed in portions of the controlled-environment facility. A baseline normal input level from each of the sensors indicative of normal activity in the controlled-environment facility (proximate to a subject sensor) is predetermined. A determination is then made whether the input from each of the sensors rises above or falls below the predetermined normal input level, and when it does, the sensor input of the subject sensor may be recorded. When input from a sensor rises above or falls below the predetermined normal input level, an alert may be issued to controlled-environment facility personnel and/or law enforcement, the input from the subject sensor may be streamed to the personnel, and/or a recording of the sensor input may be offered.

Embodiments receive an indication of initiation of communication from a controlled-environment facility resident, using a communications device, with another controlled-environment facility resident. A determination is made whether the residents are allowed to communicate and the communication is established between the communications device and another communications device in use by the other resident. The residents may be residents of different or the same controlled-environment facility(ies). The communication may be monitored and/or a database of residents that communicate with one another may be compiled. The communication between the controlled-environment facility residents may proceed, even despite a determination or predetermination that the residents are not allowed to communicate with one another, so the communication may be monitored. At least one of the residents may be charged for the communication, such as by charging a community communications account maintained to the benefit of at least one of the residents.

The method may also include creating, at least in part via the one or more communication systems, a CDR associated with the communication, where the CDR includes or references a digital media file.
