摘要： A liquid crystal display device comprising a black mask formed on one of a pair of substrates at least one of which is transparent, a group of electrodes formed on at least one of the pair of substrates, a liquid crystal layer comprising a liquid crystal composition substance having a dielectric anisotropy and held between the pair of substrates, an orientation control film formed between the liquid crystal layer and one of the substrates for orienting liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal composition substance in a predetermined direction, a polarizer laminated on at least one of the pair of substrates, and a driver for applying a drive voltage to the group of electrodes, wherein the group of electrodes has a structure that the electrodes are so arranged as to generate an electric field having a component predominantly in parallel with the interface between the orientation control film and the liquid crystal layer, the liquid crystal composition substance has a resistivity of not smaller than 10.sup.N .OMEGA..multidot.cm, and the black mask has a resistivity of not smaller than 10.sup.M .OMEGA..multidot.cm, wherein N and M are integers satisfying the relationships N.gtoreq.9 and M.gtoreq.6.

The second electrode has plural slits closed at both ends, the first electrode is a planar electrode superimposed on the plural slits, and, given that the length of the respective slits is Ls, the length Ls of the respective slits satisfies 12 μm≦Ls≦30 μm, more preferably, 12μm≦Ls≦20 μm.

摘要： There is provided a resinous optical transmitting element in which a core, through which light is transmitted, is formed into a predetermined non-linear configuration, and a cladding lower in refractive index than the core is in close contact with the core. A method of manufacturing the optical transmitting element comprises the steps of polymerizing polymeric material forming the core, within a mold having a predetermined non-linear cavity, subsequently removing the mold, and forming the cladding about the core. The resinous optical transmitting element obtained by the method can be formed into a selected one of various configurations in compliance with the purpose. In addition, the resinous optical transmitting element is less in distortion, making it possible to reduce the transmission loss.

摘要： A liquid crystal display device having a high definition screen in which a pixel electrode is formed in a region surrounded by a gate line and a drain line, and a trapezoidal protrusion having an upper surface and inclined surfaces is formed below the gate line. Since a TFT is formed over a trapezoidal protrusion and a channel portion is formed over the upper surface and the inclined surfaces of the trapezoidal protrusion, the width of the channel portion can be enlarged compared to that of a channel portion formed over a plane. The pixel electrode is in contact with a source electrode at the inclined surface of the trapezoidal protrusion. This configuration allows the TFT and a contact of the pixel electrode and a source electrode to be formed over part of the trapezoidal protrusion.

摘要： A liquid crystal display device having a high definition screen in which a pixel electrode is formed in a region surrounded by a gate line and a drain line, and a trapezoidal protrusion having an upper surface and inclined surfaces is formed below the gate line. Since a TFT is formed over a trapezoidal protrusion and a channel portion is formed over the upper surface and the inclined surfaces of the trapezoidal protrusion, the width of the channel portion can be enlarged compared to that of a channel portion formed over a plane. The pixel electrode is in contact with a source electrode at the inclined surface of the trapezoidal protrusion. The liquid crystal element has a blue pixel B, a red pixel R, and a green pixel G, which are arranged plainly, and a liquid crystal layer. The optical path conversion element array converts external light into approximately parallel light. The hologram separates light from the optical path conversion element array into a light having a wavelength range of the three primary colors and irradiates pixels R, G and B corresponding to the liquid crystal element.
