摘要:
Apparatus (18) is provided for defibrillating a heart (20) of a person. The apparatus (18) includes one or more electrodes (100) that are adapted to be coupled to the heart, and a control unit (90) that is adapted to drive the electrodes to apply electrical pulses to the heart at a rate which is typically greater than about 10 Hz. The control unit terminates the electrical pulses, so that the heart beats without fibrillation. Other embodiments are also described.
摘要:
Apparatus (18) for performing a medical procedure on a beating heart (20) includes a mechanical stabilization element (25), a surface (27) of which is adapted to be applied to a segment (24) of the heart to reduce motion of the segment. One or more electrodes (100) are fixed to the surface of the stabilization element, so as to contact the segment when the stabilization element is applied to the segment. Preferably, at least one of the one or more electrodes is adapted to apply electrical signals to the segment so as to further reduce motion thereof, while the heart continues to pump blood.
摘要:
A method and apparatus for controlling activity of a heart of a living person during a medical procedure. Electrical signals are applied to the heart so as to induce a spontaneously-reversible cardioplegia thereof. The signals are preferably such that terminating application of the signals does not induce fibrillation. Most preferably, the signals have an amplitude that is below a level that would induce fibrillation upon termination thereof.

A method and apparatus for performing a medical procedure on a beating heart. Electrical signals are applied to the heart so as to reduce motion of a segment thereof, and the procedure is performed while the heart continues to pump blood. Preferably, the motion increases spontaneously after the signals are removed.
摘要:
A method and apparatus for controlling a segment of excitable tissue, typically tissue of a heart, the segment having an intrinsic activity level. During a high phase, electrical energy of a given amplitude is applied to the segment. During a low phase, the amplitude of the electrical energy applied to the segment is reduced relative to that applied during the high phase, so that the segment's activity level increases during the low phase above the intrinsic activity level.
摘要:
An implantable lead connector configured for long term implantation and to electrically interconnect multiple medical devices and to channel electrical signals between said interconnected devices and a target organ, comprising: a first port adapted to receive a first signal suitable to stimulate a target tissue, a second port adapted to receive a second signal suitable to stimulate a target tissue, and a third port configured to connect to a target organ, wherein at least one of said first and second ports is configured to connect to a signal generator not integrated with said connector.
摘要:
A method of modifying tissue behavior, comprising: determining a desired modification of tissue behavior for at least one of treatment of a disease, short or long term modification of tissue behavior, assessing tissue state and assessing tissue response to stimulation; selecting an electric field having an expected effect of modifying protein activity of at least one protein as an immediate response of a tissue to the field, said expected effect correlated with said desired modification; and applying said field to said tissue.
摘要:
A method of modifying cardiac tissue behavior, comprising applying a therapeutically effective electric field having an effect of modifying protein activation levels of at least one protein, and repeatedly applying the field at time intervals timed to increase the activation levels of the at least one protein beyond an activation level achieved by natural and/or paced excitation of the muscle without the application, to an extent about at least as high as a decay of the activation between applications of the field.
