    Abstract: A method for a receiver, the method comprising receiving a first plurality of blocks transmitted by a transmitter using first communications resources, determining that at least one of the first plurality of blocks was not received correctly, in response to determining that at least one of the first plurality of blocks was not received correctly, transmitting to the transmitter a first negative acknowledgement (NACK) indication that at least one of the first plurality of blocks was not received correctly, the NACK indication not indicating which of the first plurality blocks was not received correctly, receiving a subset of the first plurality of blocks retransmitted by the transmitter in response to the NACK indication using second communications resources, and after receiving the subset of the first plurality of blocks, determining whether all of the first plurality of blocks have been received correctly.

    Abstract: A communications device includes receiver circuitry, transmitter circuitry, and controller circuitry controlling the transmitter circuitry and the receiver circuitry to receive data in accordance with an automatic repeat request (ARQ) type protocol in which the data is received as a plurality of encoded data packets encoded with an error correction code and the transmitter circuitry transmits a feedback signal depending on whether each of the data encoded packets is estimated as having been decoded successfully by the receiver circuitry. The controller circuitry is configured to evaluate a quality measure of each encoded data packet and in response to the evaluated quality measure to transmit an early indication of the feedback signal to the wireless communications network, before the encoded data packet has been decoded by the error correction decoder.

    Abstract: A method of operating a communications device in a wireless communications system that supports a random access procedure. The method comprises receiving, from an infrastructure equipment, a scheduling message comprising an indication of an allocation of radio resources to be used for a random access procedure message, selecting a transport block size (TBS) from a plurality of permitted TBS values for the transmission of the random access procedure message, and determining whether the selected TBS is lower than a maximum TBS of the plurality of permitted TBS values. If it is determined that the selected TBS is lower than the maximum TBS, the method comprises selecting a time for starting the transmission of the random access procedure message from a plurality of permitted starting transmission times, and transmitting the random access procedure message to the infrastructure equipment in the allocated communications resources using the selected TBS.

    Abstract: An infrastructure equipment (eNodeB) is configured to transmit a paging notification which indicates that configuration information which is broadcast in a cell to all communications devices which are configured to operate in accordance with a network controlled function has changed. Communications devices which are configured to perform the network controlled function are provided with an indication that they should receive the configuration information which is broadcast in order to reconfigure the network controlled function. A communications device which is not configured to perform the network controlled function may not recognise the paging notification or at least may detect that it does not need to receive the updated configuration information for the network controlled service. Such communications devices may therefore remain in an idle mode thereby saving power.
