    摘要: A fluid separation system is disclosed for installation within a wellbore that penetrates a production formation and a discharge formation. The system comprises a first pump and a second pump each operatively connected to a means for operation, such as a downhole electric motor, and a fluid separator for separating wellbore fluids from the production formation into a first stream and a lighter second stream. Wellbore fluids are introduced into the first pump, and are then conveyed to an inlet of the fluid separator. The second stream exiting the fluid separator is conveyed to an inlet of the second pump, and from the second pump to the earth's surface. Devices are included, such as wellbore packers, to isolate the discharge formation from the production formation, so that the second stream exiting the fluid separator directly enters the discharge formation.

    摘要: An electrical penetrator employs metal-sheathed insulated conductors that extend completely through and are sealed within a tubular housing. A filler block is disposed centrally within the housing and is surrounded by elastomeric material of a sealing member. Plugs are inserted into opposite ends of the housing so as to compress the elastomeric material and are sealed within the housing. Hollow end caps threaded into the opposite ends of the housing urge the plugs toward the elastomeric material. The metal-sheathed conductors extend through the hollow end caps and through longitudinal passages in the plugs and the sealing member. The conductors are sealed in the sealing member by the elastomeric material, are sealed in the plugs by tube fitting assemblies threaded into the plugs about the conductors, and are sealed in the hollow end caps by potting material. Expansion or swelling of the elastomeric material is accommodated by a space in the housing but is resiliently restrained by a metal spring to prevent seal failure due to a compression set of the elastomeric material.

    摘要: A centrifugal liquid-gas separator apparatus which is particularly adapted for use downhole with a submergible pump comprises an elongated hub having disposed on its periphery helical blades defining a screw-type inducer for pressurizing a liquid-gas fluid mixture entering the apparatus, axially extending vanes defining a centrifugal separator for separating the liquid and gas components of the fluid mixture, and smoothly curved blade segments disposed intermediate the blades and the vanes for providing a smooth transition for the fluid mixture flowing from the inducer to the centrifugal separator. The apparatus is capable of maintaining a substantially constant flow rate over a large range of volumetric ratios of gas to liquid.
