摘要:
An endless track continuous casting machine having a pair of upper and lower endless belts facing each other in a spaced apart relationship and travelling in a downwardly slanted direction which form the long side walls of a mold. Dam blocks continuously and closely disposed and pinched between both side edges of the pair of endless belts and each supported by a link forming part of an endless chain wound around sprockets disposed on each side of the pair of endless belts form the short side walls of the mold. The dam blocks are mounted on each of the links of the endless chain to be movable inwardly and outwardly, and they are guided by a guiding mechanism to a projecting position when entering the advancing path of the mold and are guided to a set back position when entering the returning route. This guiding mechanism is adjustable to change the projected position of each dam block while the endless chain is moving, thus enabling the width of a cast piece to be altered without stopping the casting work.

Herein disclosed is a loop type continuous metal casting machine in which two side dams are revolved in a loop passing along a casting zone from the entrance end thereof between upper and lower endless revolving casting belts to define a downhill moving mold and in which each of the side dams is formed of a multiplicity of metal dam blocks so strung onto a flexible metal strap loop that the metal dam blocks abut in end-to-end relationship against one another but are allowed to slide on and relative to the metal strap loop. Push means is disposed near the entrance end of the casting zone and is reciprocated back and forth in synchronism with the passage of each side dam for periodically entering the wedge-shaped gap, which is formed between the adjacent two of the metal damblocks of the corresponding side dam loop before entry into the casting zone, to push the preceding one of the adjacent two forward thereby to tightly press the preceding damblocks together so that the end-to-end abutting relationships of the damblocks may be ensured while the side dam loops are passing through the casting zone. Thus, molten metal can be continuously cast in the moving mold without burrs.

Lateral frames of the disclosed mold can be replaced easily and rapidly without disassembling a continuous casting machine, so as to improve the operational efficiency and to reduce the cost. The mold comprises a fixed longitudinal frame and a movable longitudinal frame which can be opened/closed by remote control, and a pair of fixed lateral frame members to which variable lateral frame members securely joined with lateral copper plates are detachably attached. A bracket provided on each of the variable lateral frame members is brought into engagement with a bracket receiving recess formed in each of the fixed lateral frame members in order to position the lower end portions of the lateral frame members. After that, the upper end portions of them are securely fixed by clamping means. Thus, the lateral frame members are integrally joined so that a mold cooling water supply/drain pipe and a spray water supply pipe for a foot shoe are connected to water conduits in the variable lateral frame member. In this manner, replacement of the lateral frames having a size corresponding to a desired thickness of cast pieces can be achieved.

A casting method and apparatus making use of a twin belt caster which has an upper belt, a lower belt and dam members disposed between both opposing longitudinal edges of the upper and lower belts. The upper belt, lower belt and dam members in cooperation provide a continuous casting mold which is inclined at a predetermined angle from the horizontal plane and into which a melt of steel is poured. The lower belt provides a smaller cooling effect than the upper belt so that the solidification of the melt is retarded in the region near the lower belt as compared with the region near the upper belt.
