Abstract:
A portable booth assembly for receiving a work piece to facilitate working on a work area of the work piece including a housing and an inner core disposed within an interior area of the housing is provided. The portable booth assembly includes an aperture that is formed in the housing and the inner core. The aperture is configured to receive the work piece. The inner core defining the aperture is configured to be supported by the work piece if the work piece is large, or support the work piece if the work piece is small, and isolate the work area within the portable booth assembly. The portable booth assembly further includes a cut out formed in the housing. The cut out is configured to enable access to the work area for working on the work area.
Abstract:
An example method of coating a substrate involves cleaning the substrate and, after cleaning the substrate, sensitizing the substrate using a sensitizing solution including tin chloride and hydrochloric acid. The method also involves, after sensitizing the substrate, activating the substrate in an activating solution including palladium chloride and hydrochloric acid. Further, the method involves subsequently neutralizing the substrate using a neutralizing solution including ammonium hydroxide. Still further, the method involves, after neutralizing the substrate, depositing an electroless nickel layer on the substrate. The method may then involve depositing an electrolytic nickel layer on top of the electroless nickel layer, and depositing an outer layer of metallic material, ceramic material, polymeric material, or any combination thereof on top of the electrolytic nickel layer.
Abstract:
A surface area of a structure is fabricated with a textured surface that reduces the surface wear rate or erosion caused by a high speed flow of fluid containing abrasive particles over the surface area. More particularly, a leading edge surface such as a rotor leading edge surface, an aircraft airfoil leading edge surface, a propeller leading edge surface, etc. is fabricated with a textured surface comprised of a plurality of grooves that alter or break up a high speed flow of fluid containing abrasive particles over the textured surface. The grooves are contacted by the high speed flow of fluid containing the abrasive particles and alter or break up the flow of fluid and abrasive particles and thereby reduce surface wear rate or erosion of the structure leading edge.
Abstract:
A system and a method for removing a first component from a second component of an assembly include retaining cooling agent within a first retaining chamber of a first container; disposing at least a portion of the assembly within the first retaining chamber so that the first component is covered by the cooling agent within the first retaining chamber; coupling a refrigerant line to a second retaining chamber of a second container; fluidly connecting the first retaining chamber to the second retaining chamber by a conduit; removing the at least a portion of the assembly from the first retaining chamber after a predetermined period of time when the first component is readily removable from the second component; draining the cooling agent into the second retaining chamber via the conduit after said removing the at least a portion of the assembly from the first retaining chamber; and cooling fluid circulating through the refrigerant line with the cooling agent.
Abstract:
A forming apparatus and method of using the apparatus with a concave mandrel to form composite materials is presented where the apparatus has a forming head with an outer surface having a contour that matches the interior surface of the concave cavity of a matching mandrel. A handle and a grip surface to allow an operator to use the forming apparatus to exert a compaction force to successive plies of prepreg to conform the laminate of plies to the interior surface of the concave cavity. Each ply is heated before contact with the forming head of the apparatus.

Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to measure an angular position of craft components are disclosed. An example apparatus includes an opening to receive a component along a first plane, and a first magnetic coupler positioned along a first exterior side of the apparatus to removably couple an inclinometer to the apparatus at a first angle relative to the first plane.
