摘要: This relates to filter columns for isolating nucleic acids, particularly at small elution volumes. The filter column is adapted for stable placement within the upper portion of standard plastic collection tubes of various sizes. The body of the filter column has a number of surfaces to accommodate placement within variously sized collection tubes. The filter column contains nucleic acid-specific filter which can be located at alternate regions within the filter column, providing different filter surface areas and loading volume capacities using the same column body. The filter column has an opening on an upper end adapted to be sealed by a cap. A method for recovering nucleic acids using such filter column is also provided.

摘要: The present invention provides a method of sensing pressure in a region of interest by providing a plurality of metallic particles operatively associated with one another in the region of interest (for example, wherein the metallic particles sustain a plasmon upon excitation), and with the metallic particles configured or positioned in relationship to one another so that a physical property of the particles (for example, the energy of the plasmon) varies in response to pressure; measuring the physical property of the metallic particles that varies in response to pressure; and then determining the pressure in the region of interest from the detected physical property (e.g., resistance, energy of the plasmon). Compositions, articles and formulations for carrying out the method in industrial and biomedical applications are also described.

摘要: A rotary cutter assembly (11) includes a rotary cutter (74) rotated by a motor (76) through a drive including pulleys (250, 264) and a belt (326) inside of a combination guard and belt tensioner assembly (260). The rotary cutter (74) includes a cutter head (82) having integral blade holders (92) which slideably receive knives (90) in a channel (230) each having a detent (236) which is received in an aperture (91) in the knife (90) so that no fasteners or moveable parts are provided for holding the knives (90) and adjustment of the knives (90) is not needed or allowed. Guard quarters (266, 314) and a guard half (268) are moveable between closed and open positions and are held in the closed position by a single latch (325). The guard half (268) includes an idler (300) which tensions the belt (326) in the closed position. The second guard quarter (314) is mounted upon a pivotable cover (306) which together with the mount (262) for the motor (76) defines an enclosure for the rotary cutter (74) and the food products cut thereby and abuts with the guard half (268) in their closed positions.

摘要: In many situations, contiguous data is not stored at contiguous locations within a memory. This fact alone causes an increase in processor time for retrieval purposes or the intervention of a memory management unit of some type. The situation is compounded when large amounts of data must be obtained from the memory or stored in the memory in real time. This problem is addressed by arranging a dual ported memory between the main memory and the processor and transferring the desired data into the dual ported memory. A pair of buffers are then used for each channel having access to the memory. While one buffer is being read, the other is being loaded. This structure also allows multiple devices to access the single main memory substantially simultaneously.

摘要: A laminated fabric having an integral raised area formed therein which simulates the appearance of a button, welt or the like, and method of making same. The laminated fabric is comprised of a layer of cloth or vinyl cover material, an intermediate layer of foam and a layer of backing material such as nylon. A form having the shape which corresponds to the desired shape of the raised area is disposed between the foam layer and the cover material. Anhydrous polyurethane foam forming materials are applied in liquid form to the form layer and cover material contact surface and the form layer and backing material contact surface. The unlaminated layers are placed over a die with each of the forms being positioned immediately above a die having protrusions which generally circumscribe the form. Moisture is introduced into the foam forming material and a heated press is applied to the backing material forcing the unlaminated layers down against the die. The resultant heat and pressure cause a foaming reaction of the foam forming materials which results in a foam bonding layer which bonds the cover material in substantial contact with the backing material in the region surrounding the form. The bonding layer also bonds the cover material and the backing material to substantially all of the remainder surface area of the foam layer.
