摘要： A carrier-injection type organic electroluminescent device includes, provided on a substrate, a transparent anode electrode, and a hole transport layer containing hole-transporting poly(N-vinylcarbazole) and 2,5-bis(1-naphthyl)-oxadiazole, and 3-(2'-benzothiazoyl)-7-diethylaminocoumarin as a fluorescent material which absorbs light within a predetermined wavelength range and emits light having a longer wavelength. Further included are an electron transport layer containing an electron-transporting tris(8-quinolinolate)aluminum complex, and a cathode electrode. When a voltage is applied between the anode and the cathode, the fluorescent material absorbs light emitted by the recombination of electrons and holes, and emits visible light.

摘要： A display panel includes an optical element which has a pair of electrodes and exhibits an optical operation corresponding to an electric current flowing between the electrodes, and a switch circuit which supplies a memory current having a predetermined current value to a current line during a selection period, and stops the supply of the memory current to the current line during a non-selection period. A current memory circuit stores current data corresponding to the current value of the memory current flowing through the current line during the selection period and, in accordance with the current data stored during the selection period, supplies a display current having a current value substantially equal to the memory current to the optical element during the non-selection period.

The optical address section includes first light emission elements, while the display section includes data electrodes, phototransistors and second light emission elements. The light emitted from the first light emission elements enters the phototransistors of the display section through the light waveguides and drives the phototransistors. In accordance with the phototransistors selected, the second light emission elements emit light upon application of a voltage of the data electrodes.

摘要： An organic electroluminescence device is placed as a back light of a liquid crystal display panel. The organic electroluminescence device is constituted by a front electrode (#112) having transparency to visible light, a rear electrode (#113) having reflection to visible light and an organic electroluminescence layer (#114) for emitting light as a predetermined voltage is applied between the front and rear electrodes. A scatter control member (#120), located between the liquid crystal panel and the organic electroluminescence panel, passes incident light within a predetermined range without scattering and passes light outside the predetermined range with scattering. Preferably, the scatter control member is constituted by a plurality of lightguiding portions (#121) having transparency to visible light and a plurality of reflection films (#122) having a reflection property to visible light.

摘要： A display device includes an EL element for signal light which is based on the segment matrix drive scheme and causes a plurality of areas to emit signal light containing light in a wavelength range other than the visible range, a photoconductive layer which generates carriers upon incidence of signal light, and an EL element for display light which is adjacent to the photoconductive layer. Signal light is irradiated onto desired areas of the photoconductive layer. Carriers are injected from the irradiated areas into the EL layer to emit display light containing visible light.
