The device comprises a cash box for storing notes. A control unit determines whether a filling level of the cash box has reached or exceeded a predetermined value. The control unit determines a remaining capacity of the cash box. The control unit deducts the number of notes transported to the cash box from the remaining capacity after a predetermined fill level of the cash box has been reached.
