摘要： A lightweight, impact-resistant gas turbine blade, such as an aircraft engine fan blade, has an airfoil portion which includes a metal section and at least one foam section which together define a generally airfoil shape. The metal section extends from generally the blade root to generally the blade tip. A composite skin generally completely surrounds, and is bonded to, the metal section and the at-least-one foam section. Preferably, an erosion coating generally completely surrounds, and is bonded to, the composite skin.

摘要： A caul is used in an autoclave process for consolidating a composite, multi-ply, gas turbine fan blade preform having first and second opposite sides and a varying thickness therebetween. The caul includes a body having fibers situated in a matrix. The caul is complementary in shape to the preform first side and has a bending flexibility varying over the body for correspondingly varying consolidation of the preform. The second side of the preform is shaped by a bottom mold in the autoclave chamber.

摘要： A method of continuously impregnating a resin impregnable cured in place liner in a resin impregnation tower is provided. A cured in place liner having at least one layer of resin impregnable material is fed into the top of the tower, drawn down about a roller at the bottom, removed from the top of the tower and then wrapped with an outer impermeable coating. The tower is filled with resin at a suitable height to provide a sufficient pressure head of resin to impregnate the resin impregnable material fully. The impregnated liner is suitable for inversion or the pull-in-and-inflate method of installation. For liners formed with an inner impermeable layer, the liner is suitable for curing with steam.

摘要： A process for lining an existing pipeline or conduit with a flexible resin impregnated cured in place liner by pulling in the liner and inflating an eversion bladder with air and curing the liner with flow-through steam without loss of pressure is provided. The bladder is stored in a pressure bladder canister coupled to a pressurized downtube and eversion elbow. The bladder is everted by introducing pressurized air into the canister As the bladder reaches the distal manhole, it enters a receiving canister where it is punctured while maintaining air pressure within the bladder a pinch valve between the downtube and elbow isolates the inverted bladder so that steam can be introduced into the bladder to cure the resin and exhaust through the receiving canister. The bladder is then removed and lateral service reinstated.

摘要： A resin impregnation tower for continuously impregnating the resin impregnable layer of a tubular cured in place liner is provided. The tower is of a height to provide sufficient resin pressure head to impregnate the resin impregnable layer fully. A cured in place liner having at least one layer of resin impregnable material is fed into the top of the tower, drawn down about a roller at the bottom, removed from the top of the tower and then wrapped with an outer impermeable coating. The impregnated liner is suitable for pull-in-and-inflate method of installation or may be inverted. For liners formed with an inner impermeable layer, the liner is suitable for curing with steam.

摘要： A technique for measuring and selectively adjusting a clearance between a stationary object and desirably a rotating object includes a non-contact, sensing system having a sensor attachable to the stationary object, a mask having a predetermined sized viewport or aperture that sets or limits the sensing or operation of the sensor, and a controller. The sensor is operable for sensing within a field of view a portion of the rotating object and generating a signal in response thereto. The field of view varies in response to varying the clearance between the sensor and the second object. Desirably, the portion of the second object includes a varying pattern. The controller is operable to determine the clearance between the first object and the second object in response to the signal. In another embodiment, sensing system is operable to adjust the clearance by controller providing an electrical current to a resistive heating element in the thermally expandable portion of a plurality of segmented labyrinth seals. The sensing system is also operable to measure vibration of the rotating object.

摘要： A method for detecting misalignment of initially-aligned fiber filaments in a composite. An optical fiber is placed among the fiber filaments in the composite, light is directed into the optical fiber, the intensity of the light in the optical fiber is measured during subsequent composite processing, and attenuation in such light intensity is ascertained which indicates such misalignment (e.g., wrinkling, bending, buckling, porosity, delamination and the like) is being detected during such processing. In another preferred method, before-processing and after-processing x-ray images are taken of an x-ray-attenuating fiber which has been placed among x-ray-transparent fiber filaments in a composite.
