The parameter may indicate candidate positions of synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) within a discovery reference signal (DRS) measurement timing configuration (DMTC) transmission window within slots of a system frame (SFN). During the DMTC window, the gNB may perform a LBT procedure on an unlicensed carrier of the unlicensed spectrum to determine if the unlicensed carrier is available. When the LBT is successful (i.e., the unlicensed carrier is available), the gNB may encode a discovery reference signal (DRS) for transmission on the unlicensed carrier. The DRS may include one or more of the SSBs transmitted during the candidate positions that fall within the DRS. The gNB may perform rate matching around the SSBs for a scheduled PDSCH based on the indicated parameter and transmit the rate-matched PDSCH.

Systems and methods of providing timing information for initial access in an unlicensed band are described. A UE monitors a new radio discovery signal (NRDS-U) window in an unlicensed band for a DRS transmission that is constrained to be transmitted within the NRDS-U window. The UE determines initial access information, including an offset that indicates when the DRS transmission occurs within the NRDS-U window, and engages in initial access dependent on the offset. The offset is from a radio frame or half radio frame boundary or the start of the NRDS-U window. The offset is indicated in three least/most significant bits an SSB index or from an s1-offset field in a MIB of the SSB. When the base station uses a DFS channel, the base station transmits a periodic signal to emulate a radar signal.

The gNB may encode multiple candidate code-block groups to be available for a transmission in unlicensed spectrum, wherein one of the candidate code-block groups is to be transmitted based on a listen-before-talk (LBT) process. Each of the candidate code-block groups may be mapped to a different subset of channels in the unlicensed spectrum. The gNB may determine, based on one or more channel measurements, one or more of the channels that are available for the transmission. A method and apparatus are provided for feedback for closed-loop transmitting with multiple transmit antenna elements and multiple receive antenna elements. A base station includes a codebook containing sets of weightings for the multiple transmit antenna elements, with each set of weightings identified by an index and the codebook known to the base station and a served mobile station (MS). The base station pre-codes pilot signals using a precoding matrix, preferably a unitary matrix, to produce pre-coded pilot signals, which precoding matrix may or may not be known to the MS and which precoding matrix may or may not be included in the codebook. The base station then transmits the pre-coded pilot signals to the MS via the multiple transmit antenna elements and, in response, receives an index to a set of weightings in the codebook for use in a subsequent transmission of a data stream.
