摘要: The invention detects quickly and with high precision abnormalities in fuel cells. In a method of detecting abnormalities in a fuel cell 1 comprising a plurality of unit cells that generate power by supplying hydrogen gas to an anode and supplying air to a cathode of each unit cell, the abnormality in the fuel cell 1 is detected based on the speed of the decrease in the cell voltages after stopping the fuel cell, i.e., after stopping the supply of the reacting gases to the fuel cell.

摘要: A fuel cell system includes a fuel cell, an oxidant gas passage, a cathode off-gas passage, a fuel gas passage, a circulation passage, an anode off-gas passage, a fuel shutoff valve, a supply device, a humidifier and a control device. The supply device supplies a scavenging gas, which is for scavenging the fuel cell, to the anode and the cathode. The humidifier humidifies the scavenging gas. The control device controls the supply device when the fuel cell is turned off so that supply of the fuel gas to the anode is shut off and the scavenging gas is supplied to the anode and the cathode, wherein supply of the scavenging gas to the cathode is conducted through the humidifier.

摘要: An oxygen-containing gas flow field is formed on a surface of a first metal separator. The oxygen-containing gas flow field is connected between an oxygen-containing gas supply passage and an oxygen-containing gas discharge passage. The oxygen-containing gas flow field comprises oxygen-containing gas flow grooves, and ends of the oxygen-containing gas flow grooves are extended outwardly beyond ends of electrode catalyst layer of a membrane electrode assembly, and connected to an inlet buffer and an outlet buffer. When the purging process is performed at the time of stopping operation of the fuel cell, the purging air supplied to the oxygen-containing gas flow field discharges water retained in the electrode catalyst layers from the ends to the outlet buffer.

摘要: A fuel cell system includes a fuel cell and a supplying unit, which supplies reactive gases to the fuel cell. A control unit includes a power production effective area calculator calculates the areas of the electrodes available for power production as a power production effective area. A current density calculator which calculates a current density of the power production effective area calculated by the power production effective area calculator based on the total amount of power required by the fuel cell. A gas supply amount determiner determines the amount of reactive gas to be supplied to the fuel cell depending on the current density. A gas supply controller controls the supplying unit so as to supply the amount of reactive gas determined by the gas supply amount determiner to the fuel cell.

摘要: A stacked body is formed by stacking a plurality of power generation cells in a stacking direction. End power generation cells are provided at opposite ends of the stacked body in the stacking direction. Each of the power generation cells includes a membrane electrode assembly and first and second metal separators sandwiching the membrane electrode assembly therebetween. The end power generation cells include first outer separators and second outer separators. The first outer separators are more highly hydrophilic in comparison with the first and second metal separators of the power generation cells.

摘要: When it is detected that the temperature of the fuel cell stack is at the freezing temperature of water or less (step S1), an operation mode using a freezing temperature starting up operation control map is selected (step S2). Freezing temperature starting up operation of the fuel cell stack is performed according to the freezing temperature starting up operation control map (step S3). Then, when it is detected that the temperature of the fuel cell stack exceeds the freezing temperature (step S4), the operation mode using the freezing temperature starting up operation control map is switched to an operation mode using a normal starting up operation control map (step S5). Thus, normal starting up operation is performed according to the normal starting up control map (step S6).
