    摘要: An internal combustion engine is disclosed which comprises first and second cylinder units each including at least one cylinder, pulse generator means for generating, in synchronism with engine rotation, a fuel injection pulse signal of pulse width proportional to the rate of air flow to said engine, and first and second fuel supply means responsive to the fuel injection pulse signal for supplying, into the first and second cylinder units, respectively, a controlled amount of fuel corresponding to the duty ratio of the fuel injection pulse signal. Control means is provided for cutting off the fuel injection pulse signal to the second fuel supply means when the engine load is below a reference level increasing with an increase in engine temperature except when the engine speed is below a given level at open throttle conditions.

    摘要: An internal combustion engine is disclosed which includes first and second cylinder units each including at least one cylinder, means for cutting off the supply of air and fuel to the second cylinder unit so as to render it inactive when the engine load is below a given value, a three-way catalytic converter for purifying the exhaust from the cylinders, a sensor exposed to the exhaust from the cylinders to provide a signal indicative of the air/fuel ratio at which the engine is operating, and means responsive to the signal from the sensor for controlling the fuel supplied to the engine to maintain the stoichiometric air/fuel ratio. Means is provided for introducing a predetermined amount of air into the second cylinder unit.

    摘要: An internal combustion engine is disclosed which includes active and inactive cylinders, a load detector adapted to provide a low load indicative signal when the engine load is below a predetermined value, first means responsive to the low load indicative signal for cutting off the flow of air to the inactive cylinders, and second means for supplying a controlled amount of fuel into the active and inactive cylinders so as to achieve a somewhat lean air-fuel mixture therein. The second means is responsive to the low load indicative signal for cutting off the supply of fuel to the inactive cylinders and increasing the amount of fuel supplied to the active cylinders so as to achieve a somewhat rich air-fuel mixture therein. Third means is provided for monitoring the oxygen content of the exhaust from the engine to control the second means so that the fuel supplied to the engine is correct to maintain the stoichiometric air/fuel ratio.

    摘要: Disclosed is a split engine control system wherein the intake manifold is segmented by a shut-off valve into a first chamber portion leading to a first group of cylinders and a second chamber portion leading to a second group of cylinders. During periods of relatively low load, the cylinders of the second group are deactivated and the shut-off valve is closed to isolate the second chamber from the first chamber to cut off air supply to the deactivated cylinders. Exhaust gases are recirculated through the deactivated cylinders so that their pumping loss is minimized. A pressure detector is provided to detect a pressure difference which might develop between the first and second chambers during the partial cylinder operation to control the flow rate of the recirculated gases until the pressure difference reduces substantially to zero.

    摘要: A split engine control system includes a load level detector for generating a first signal in response to a relatively high engine load and a second signal in response to a relatively low engine load. A certain of the cylinders of an internal combustion engine is deactivated in response to the second signal to operate the engine on partial cylinders and activated in response to the first signal to permit the engine to operate on full cylinders. A discriminating circuit is connected to the load level detector to disable the second signal when the duration of the latter is smaller than a preset time interval which corresponds to the duration of a false indication of engine load reduction which might occur in response to gear changes during full cylinder operation.

    摘要: A control system for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine comprises a split engine control unit for operating the engine on partial cylinders when reduced engine power can adequately operate the vehicle, and first and second exhaust conduits for directing exhaust gases from first and second group cylinders respectively to a common junction to which a common exhaust conduit is connected for directing the gases to the atmosphere. A first set of an exhaust gas sensor and catalytic converter is disposed in the first conduit to be exposed to the stream of gases exhausted from the second group cylinders which are activated at all times and a second set of an exhaust gas sensor and catalytic converter is disposed in the common conduit to be exposed to the stream of gases exhausted from the first group cylinders directed through the first conduit and to the gases passed through the upstream side catalytic converter in the second conduit. A feedback control circuit is responsive selectively to a signal from the first gas sensor during the partial cylinder operation for correcting the ratio of mixture supplied to the second group cylinders and to a signal from the second gas sensor during the full cylinder operation for correcting the ratio of mixture supplied to all the cylinders.

    摘要: In order to promote a good flame dispersion within the combustion chamber of a swirl chamber type Diesel engine, a shaped recess formed in the piston crown is arranged to have a trench portion into which the flame from the swirl chamber is injected and mirror image flame dispersion portions on either side of the trench which terminates at the periphery of the piston crown. This arrangement inhibits the formation of secondary flame flows which tend impede desirable patterns within the flame disportion portions and simultaneously enlarges the dispersion area. In addition, careful selection of the dimensions of the transfer port which interconnects the swirl chamber and the main combustion chamber, and the various sections of the shaped recess, promotes further reductions in HC and smoke emissions.
