摘要: In one aspect, a hybrid heat exchanger that includes a metallic serpentine tube having an inlet end portion to receive a process fluid, an outlet end portion, and a series of runs and return bends directing the process fluid from the inlet end portion to the outlet end portion of the metallic serpentine tube. The hybrid heat exchanger further includes a thermally conductive polymer body thermally integrated with the serpentine tube. The thermally conductive polymer body has an outer surface to be contacted by a fluid, such as air and/or water. The thermally conductive polymer body is configured to transfer heat between the metallic serpentine tube and the fluid contacting the outer surface of the thermally conductive polymer body. The outer surface of the thermally conductive polymer body includes surface enhancement features that affect flow of the fluid across the outer surface of the thermally conductive polymer body.

摘要: In one aspect, a heat rejection apparatus is provided including an evaporative heat exchanger and a primary fan operable to direct first ambient air into an air inlet, cause the first ambient air to interact with the evaporative heat exchanger to produce heated air, and discharge the heated air from an air outlet. The heat rejection apparatus includes a plume abatement fan operable to direct second ambient air into contact with the heated air downstream of the evaporative heat exchanger and a controller operably coupled to the primary fan and the plume abatement fan. The controller has a plume abatement mode wherein the controller operates the plume abatement fan to cause the plume abatement fan to direct the second ambient air into contact with the heated air to cool the heated air and abate plume.

摘要: An improved indirect heat exchanger is provided which is comprised of a plurality of coil circuits, with each coil circuit comprised of an indirect heat exchange section tube run or plate. Each tube run or plate has at least one change in its geometric shape or may have a progressive change in its geometric shape proceeding from the inlet to the outlet of the circuit. The change in geometric shape along the circuit length allows simultaneously balancing of the external airflow, internal heat transfer coefficients, internal fluid side pressure drop, cross sectional area and heat transfer surface area to optimize heat transfer.

摘要: A cooling tower or, in alternate operation an evaporative condenser, is provided having a dry sensible or indirect heat exchange section and an evaporative heat exchange section. The dry sensible section includes a coil circuit through which a liquid to be cooled passes. The evaporative section is below the dry sensible section and may include a coil circuit or fill sheets. Modulating louvers are provided to allow the air flow and accordingly the evaporative loading to be varied between the dry sensible section and the evaporative section.

摘要: A method of controlling the operation of a heat exchanger with evaporative and non-evaporative sections. The method includes the following steps: providing desired values of temperature or pressure; comparing present values of temperature or pressure to the desired values of temperature and pressure; and manipulating an air flowrate to the heat exchanger and load to the evaporative heat exchanger to optimize total energy and water costs while maintaining an outlet fluid at the desired temperature or pressure.

摘要: A cooling tower is disclosed that is resistant to lateral displacement while minimizing the number and type of parts, and while limiting the amount of horizontal bracing. The cooling tower has a fiber reinforced material skeletal frame. Moment-transferring connections are provided in the connections between the elements of the skeletal frame and between the skeletal frame and the base on which it sits. Further cost savings may be realized by using separable parts made of wood instead of fiber reinforced material. The moment-transferring connections between the frame members are made by bonding the joined elements to a mounting plate. The moment-transferring connections between the frame and the base are made by bonding the frame members and the base to footings. A method of constructing such a cooling tower is also disclosed. Diagonal bracing may be provided at preselected joints.

摘要: The present invention comprises an improved method and apparatus for treating water in heat exchange systems. The present invention automatically and inexpensively provides an effective chemical to process water systems at times and in proportion to the need for water treatment in such systems. When used in evaporative cooling systems, the present invention adds the treatment chemical to the system via the make-up water. The make-up water acquires a substantially constant concentration of treatment chemical as it is passed through a device containing a treatment chemical. The constant concentration of chemical is achieved by dividing the make-up flow into two streams within the device, saturating the smaller of the two streams with chemical, and re-mixing the two streams. The biocide agent used in the preferred embodiment of the invention is prilled elemental iodine.
