摘要: A method of detecting a pathogen in a water sample. The method includes extracting DNA of the pathogen from a DNA solution derived from a water sample, eluting the DNA through a paper-based microfluidic device having flow channels and then performing LAMP reactions within a set of reaction chambers to obtain LAMP products that may be detected via an amplicon detection test.

摘要: A radiation detecting apparatus includes a collimator and a detector, the collimator having a material for blocking radiation and a region that is a sector of an annulus or multiple regions in a configuration in the shape of a sector of an annulus for allowing transmission of the radiation. The detector is spaced a distance from the collimator such that when a radiation source and sample crystal material are positioned at suitable positions, the radiation is collimated by the collimator and contacts the sample a predetermined distance from the detector at multiple of locations corresponding to the region or regions of the collimator. The Bragg diffracted radiation from the crystal material at two or more and preferably all of the locations overlap at the detector.

摘要: This invention relates to a sensor and in particular to a sensor for the detection of biologically important species. Specifically, the invention provides a method for detecting an analyte in the presence of at least one interferent in a sample. The method comprises the steps of providing a sensor having a transducer and a receptor layer in communication with the transducer, in which the receptor layer comprises a material for absorbing the analyte; exposing the receptor layer to the sample; treating the receptor layer to remove selectively the at least one interferent; and measuring the signal from the transducer. The treatment step is performed by applying a change in potential, a change in pH or a change in temperature to the receptor layer, by washing the receptor layer, by irradiating the receptor layer, or a combination thereof.

摘要: A monomer having a pair of hydroxy groups held in a fixed relationship (e.g. a dihydroxybenzene) is diesterified with a compound having a polymerisable group, e.g. to form a diacrylate. After polymerisation with a crosslinker, the polymer is hydrolysed. The dihydroxy-monomer is removed, leaving a polymer with pair of carboxyl groups held in spatial relationships determined by the dihydroxy monomer. Thus a range of subtly different polymers can be prepared by using different dihydroxy-monomer templates. The polymers are desirably swellable. They can be used as selective binding materials, e.g. in chromatography or analysis.

摘要: An interferometric fluid sensing system is provided. The system comprises: a laser; a plurality of first fibre portions arranged to receive laser light from the laser, wherein each of the first fibre portions comprises a void and an opening to allow fluid from the environment around the corresponding first fibre portion to enter the void, wherein the first fibre portions are configured such that the laser light received by each first fibre portion passes through the corresponding void; a second fibre portion configured to provide a reference arm for the interferometric fluid sensing system; and a detector arranged to receive light from the first and second fibre portions, wherein the system is configured such that the laser light that passes through the void of each first fibre portion is caused to interfere with the light passing through the second fibre portion at or before reaching the detector, wherein each of the first fibre portions is arranged such that that light passing through the void of each first fibre portion travels from the laser to the detector over a different path length from the light passing through the voids of the other first fibre portions, wherein the system is configured such that the wavelength of light provided by the laser varies with time according to a modulated function, the modulated function comprising a first function, which varies through a range of wavelengths, modulated by a second, cyclical carrier function. An interferometric fluid detection method is also provided.

摘要: A system (1) for detecting and locating corrosion on the outer surface of a metal body (2). The system includes an extended electromagnetic waveguide (6) arranged adjacent to the outer surface of the metal body. The electromagnetic waveguide includes a sacrificial component that experiences substantially the same environment as the outer surface of the metal body. The system also includes a waveform generator (10) arranged to be connected to the waveguide and to inject an electromagnetic waveform into the waveguide. The system also includes a waveform analyser (12) connected to the waveguide. The waveform analyser is arranged to receive a reflected portion of the injected electromagnetic waveform from the waveguide. The reflected portion of the injected electromagnetic waveform is used by the waveform analyser to determine the location of corrosion of the sacrificial component of the waveguide.
