摘要: A method is described in which a coherent transmitter transmits a first optical signal having customer data through a fiber optic link. A control signal is provided to the coherent transmitter to cause the coherent transmitter to transmit a second optical signal devoid of customer data. A reflection of the second optical signal is detected via the coherent receiver. Then, a chromatic dispersion of the reflection of the second optical signal is determined and correlated with known parameters indicative of an amount of chromatic dispersion per unit length of the fiber optic link to determine a distance travelled by the second optical signal.

摘要: Systems, methods, devices, and other implementations for minimizing latency asymmetries and variations in a bi-directional link between two nodes in a communication system are described. To determine a variable latency for communication between two network nodes, a transmitting node can insert a line marker and a client marker into the data to be transmitted to the receiving node. The line marker and client marker can be inserted into the data at different portions or by different components of a transmitter. The receiving node can receive the transmitted data and extract the line marker and client marker. A delay associated with the line and client markers (Tc-TL) in the transmission device and a delay between the reception of the line and clien markers (Rc-RL) at the receiving node can be used to determine the variable latency.

摘要: Disclosed herein are methods and systems for computing a launch power for an optical node by collecting data for an optical network segment and inputting the collected data and first power spectral density values into a machine learning model which are used to compute a first non-linear interference value. A first generalized-optical signal-to-noise ratio value is computed using the computed first non-linear interference value and amplified spontaneous emission values. At least one second generalized-optical signal-to-noise ratio value is computed using at least one second non-linear interference value, computed using at least one second power spectral density values, and the amplified spontaneous emission values. A highest generalized-optical signal-to-noise ratio value is determined by comparing the first generalized-optical signal-to-noise ratio value and the at least one second generalized-optical signal-to-noise ratio value. A launch power is computed using the power spectral density values associated with the highest generalized-optical signal-to-noise ratio.

摘要: A network element is herein disclosed. The network element comprises an embedded device having one or more property affecting a function of the embedded device; a computing system having a processor and a memory, the memory being a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing a performance monitoring domain agent, a performance monitoring collector daemon, and a performance monitoring logger. The performance monitoring collector daemon is processor-executable code that when executed by the processor causes the processor to communicate with the embedded device and collect one or more performance information of the embedded device based on the one or more property. The performance monitoring domain agent is processor-executable code that when executed by the processor causes the processor to: retrieve the performance information from the performance monitoring collector daemon; format the performance information into a formatted data based on a metrics metadata file; and transmit the formatted data to the performance monitoring logger.

摘要: Methods, systems, and apparatus for subcarrier modulation with radio frequency inphase-quadrature (IQ) modulators. A system includes a plurality of IQ modulators, each configured to receive an input electrical signal comprising an inphase signal and a quadrature signal, and each configured to modulate the inphase signal and quadrature signal based on one of a plurality of local oscillator signals to output a multiplexed signal. Each of the plurality of local oscillator signals is supplied by a respective one of a plurality of local oscillator circuits. A modulator circuit is configured to modulate a carrier optical signal from a laser having a frequency ωc based on the multiplexed signal to generate a modulated optical signal centered at frequency ωc and comprising a plurality of subcarriers. A center frequency of each of the plurality of subcarriers is offset from ωc by a frequency of said one of the plurality of local oscillator signals.

摘要: Optical subcarriers may be employed to transmit data in a point-to-multi-point network whereby a hub node including a network switch receives such data from a client and transmits information indicative of such data to multiple leaf or network nodes, where data intended for such leaf node is output. Often the rate at which data is supplied to the hub node is different than the rate at which information indicative of the data is transmitted. Moreover, the client data may have a format that is different than that associated with the transmitted information indicative of the client data. Consistent with the present disclosure, client data is inverse multiplexed to lower data rate streams and then multiplexed to a plurality of inputs, each of which corresponding to a respective optical subcarrier. Information indicative of the data may be allocated to multiple subcarriers, if the a single carrier lacks sufficient capacity or bandwidth to meet the bandwidth requirements of the leaf node. Buffer circuits may also be employed to “shape” or delay the outputs or flows of the multiplexer so that data is fed, for example, to a transmit portion of chip 200b of the network switch at a uniform rate rather than in non-uniform data bursts, which, under certain circumstances, could exceed the capacity of such transmit portion. In a further example, leaf nodes include circuitry for monitoring the amount of received data, and, if such received exceeds a certain threshold, a request is sent from the leaf node to the hub to transmit data at a rate equal to or substantially equal to the received data rate. As a result, symmetric data flows may be achieved whereby the leaf nodes transmit and receive data at the same or substantially the same rate.
