摘要:
A disk changer employs two disk guides to support a recorded disk at opposite points along its edge. One of the disk guides has a belt that revolves around two pulleys. A surface of the belt frictionally engages an edge surface of the disk. The other disk guide has two surfaces, a low-friction guide surface parallel to the recorded surface of the disk and a resilient sloped surface that forms an angle with both the recorded surface of the disk and the perpendicular to the recorded surface of the disk. Both guides are urged together, and, as a result, the sloped surface is urged against the disk edge. Because of the slope of the surface, the sloped surface meets a corner where the recorded surface of the disk meets the edge surface of the disk and urges the disk's recorded surface toward the guide surface. This stabilizes the disk against pitching motion.

A disk player supports a disk between two opposing longitudinal disk guides, one with a moving belt running along it. The belt frictionally engages an edge of the disk to roll the disk along the opposite guide. Disks are inserted through an insertion aperture, normally covered by a flap. When the player is ready to receive a disk, the flap opens outwardly. The disk is inserted between the guides through the aperture. The guides separate to accommodate the disk causing the flap to drop onto the back of the disk. As the disk moves, the flap rides the back face of the disk until it falls off a trailing edge, registering a reference position of the disk. Encoder pulses indicate increments of advancement of the belt position. The pulses are counted after passing the reference position, to determine when the disk has arrived at the playback position. A turntable is moved toward the disk until a spindle inserts into a center hole of the disk. If the spindle strikes the disk and forces it upward, the disk presses a damper to an irregular position which is detected to indicate misalignment of the disk. In response, the disk is moved back until it is underneath the flap. The flap is dropped onto the back of the disk and the disk transported back to the playback position. This process is repeated until the misalignment is corrected or a predetermined number of cycles fails to correct it.

A disk player receives a disk through an insertion aperture and supports the disk opposite contact points on its edge, between laterally movable left and right-side disk guides. The disk's left side contacts a belt revolved on the left-side disk guide causing the disk to roll along the right side disk guide. An outwardly opening flap hinged at the top of the insertion aperture is held open when the disk player is prepared to receive a disk. As the disk is inserted the disk guides begin moving apart which causes the flap, urged by a spring, to drop to the back surface of the disk. The disk holds the flap partly open until a trailing edge of the disk passes inside at which point the flap's closure is detected and the flap locked in the closed position to prevent irregular insertion of additional disks. The closure of the flap registers the precise position of the disk. The disk is positioned within the player using an encoder which measures cumulative displacement of the disk relative to the registration position. If misalignment of the disk is detected, the disk is driven back to the insertion aperture, the flap is opened, the disk is drawn back in, the flap dropped, the disk drawn in again to repeat the registration. To protect disks, the flap is covered with a soft slippery material such as that used to line floppy disk holders.

A disk playback device precisely positions disks of various sizes at playback, store, and eject positions. A disk is inserted between two longitudinal disk guides, movable in a direction perpendicular to a direction of transport of the disk. An indicator indicates the amount of separation of the two disk guides caused by insertion, thereby indicating the size of the disk. A belt revolves along one of the disk guides frictionally engaging an edge of the disk and rolling the disk along the opposite disk guide. A flap at an insertion aperture is dropped onto the surface of the disk as it is drawn into the disk player until the flap drops off the trailing edge of the disk indicating the disk is at a registration position. A controller which counts pulses from an encoder connected to the drive mechanism to determine the accruing distance of the disk from the registration position. The controller stops the belt after a specified number of pulses to position the disk center at the playback position. The number of pulses depends on the size of the disk since the position of the center of the disk at the registration position depends on the disk size. The disk is transported to a storage position and an eject position by similarly counting pulses. By counting pulses from a single sensed registration position, the need for separate sensors to indicate the separate playback, store, and eject positions is avoided.

A disk transport mechanism for a disk player employs a fixed disk guide to support one edge of a disk and a drive-side disk guide, with a revolving belt, to support and drive an opposite edge of the disk. The revolving belt is supported at two points by pulleys. The disk is held between the fixed and drive-side disk guides to press the revolving belt against the disk edge causing the disk to roll along the fixed disk guide. The fixed and drive-side disk guides are movably supported on a chassis and urged together by a spring. When a disk is transported to a playback position, the disk guides are separated to disengage the disk by a rack and pinion mechanism. The rack and pinion mechanism employs a pinion gear coaxially connected to one of the pulleys supporting the revolving belt. A drive gear, also coaxially connected with the pinion gear and pulley, is driven by a motor on the chassis through an extensible transmission to power the revolving belt. The same motor and transmission shifts the drive-side disk guide laterally to separate the disk guides for playback by pivoting a rack, pivotably mounted on the chassis, toward the pinion gear to mesh with it. Thus, a single motor is used to drive both the disk transport mechanism and the separation mechanism that frees the disk for playback.

A disk player has a magazine for storing disks and a disk transport mechanism transporting a selected disk between four positions including an eject position, a load position, a playback position, and a store position which lie in a single plane. The selected disk is carried on a carriage in a tray from the eject position to the load position where the selected disk and carriage are partially removed from the tray to the playback position above a disk reader. The partial removal of the carriage from the tray to the load position provides a required clearance aperture for the disk reader permitting a tray length to be minimized. A first transport mechanism transports the tray and carriage between said eject and load position. A second transport mechanism transports the carriage between the load, playback, and store positions. The first transport mechanism enables the second transport mechanism when transporting the carriage to the load position. The second transport mechanism disables the first transport mechanism and locks the tray at the load position when removing a carriage from the load position. The magazine accepts a plurality of disks held in carriages. An alignment mechanism provides relative movement between the magazine and a plane of transport of the disk transport mechanism permitting the selected disk to be inserted or removed from the magazine at the store position. The disk reader is positioned to read the selected disk overlapping disks stored in the magazine resulting in a smaller disk player size. Another embodiment of the invention eliminates the magazine and its associated store position.

A disk player has a magazine for holding disks and mechanisms for transporting disks between four positions, an eject position, a load position, a playback position, and a store position. A disk reader is positioned to read a selected disk in the playback position while the selected disk overlaps disks in the magazine. The disks are held on carriages in the magazine and are transported on the carriages to the disk reader. Each carriage has a V-shaped aperture which provides for access by the disk reader to a recording surface of the selected disk. Clearance for playing the selected disk is also provided by the V-shaped apertures of adjacent carriages in the magazine. The selected disk is raised by the disk reader into an area within the V-shaped aperture of the carriage in the magazine which is above the disk being played. A selected carriage is carried by a tray between the eject position and the load position. The selected carriage is partially removed from the tray during transport from the load position to the playback position. The partial removal elongates an access aperture for the disk reader and allows a shortened tray length to be achieved. The tray has protrusions which extend into the V-shaped aperture and provide supplemental support for a disk held in the selected carriage. Countersunk apertures extend into the protrusions to facilitate removal of a disk from the tray and carriage.

A changer-equipped disc player uses a number n of carriages which can to hold up to a number n of discs in storage positions in a stocker. These carriages carry discs between the stocker and a movable tray for play and for loading and unloading. One of the n number of carriages, carriage S, is usable in a single-play mode, allowing the player to be used as a tray equipped single-play device. Carriage S may be selected for single play regardless of the number of discs stored in the remaining n-1 number of carriages. The remaining n-1 number of carriages are usable only in changer-play operation. Loading discs into the device is accomplished by placing discs into empty carriages as each is held in the tray in an eject position. The stocker is not removed for loading discs or for removing or replacing the discs stored within it. During changer-playback operation, the device selects and plays all stored discs in a predetermined sequence. During single-play operation, the device plays only the disc in carriage S.

A disk player with disk changer functions has an elevatable stacker for storing plural disks for playback. A mechanism or elevation of the stacker relative to a main body of the player includes a motor, a threaded shaft (95) rotated by the motor and a nut (96) fixed to the bottom of the stacker in engagement of the threaded shaft (95) to allow elevation of the stacker in response to rotation of the threaded shaft. The threaded shaft has a smaller diameter than a central aperture of the disk when received in the stacker. The fixed position of the nut may be adjusted to vary relative angular position with respect to the threaded shaft. A projection (96) may be inserted into one of a plurality of apertures (903) to vary or adjust the position of the nut relative to the shaft (95).
