    摘要: A tool for gripping a remotely located article includes an elongated tubular housing, a tool actuating assembly connected to one end of the housing, and a jaw support member connected to the other end of the housing. A first jaw member having a gripping surface is supported on the jaw support member by a first pair of arms, and a second jaw member having a gripping surface is supported on the jaw support member by a second pair of arms so that the gripping surfaces of the jaw members are disposed in parallel, confronting relation. The two pairs of arms are slidingly and pivotably connected to the jaw support member so that the gripping surfaces of the jaw members may be moved between a first, open position and a second, closed position for gripping an article. When moving between the first and second positions the gripping surfaces move in parallel relation to one another. The tool actuating assembly includes an over-center toggle mechanism so that the jaws are held locked when in the gripping position. An adjustment mechanism for adjusting the distance between the gripping surfaces of the jaw members is provided for accommodating articles of varying size and shape. In an additional embodiment, a plurality of tubular housing sections are provided. A lever arm for operating the tool actuating assembly is formed so that it lies against the elongated tubular housing when the jaw members are moved into the gripping position.

    摘要: Apparatus for calibrating radiation detection instruments retains a beta radiation source, typically strontium 90, providing a known intensity of beta radiation in a safety shielded position within an aluminum mass to meter out standard doses in a plurality of ranges for calibrating corresponding instrument ranges. Safety features assure shielding of the radiation to prevent any exposure of personnel calibrating instruments to radiation. The calibrating apparatus is portable, but is supplied also in a wall mount housing structure with a horizontally extending shelf for receiving an instrument into calibration position. A pivotable treadle must be operated when placing the instrument into calibration position in order to release calibrating radiation from the source, which is retained in a safe storage position when the calibrating apparatus is not in use.

    摘要: Problems of filling dunnage bags for cushioning loads in transit in trailers, railroad cars, and the like, with air are resolved by this improved air filling bag valve and nozzle. In several respects the valves are superior in operation, wasting less air and filling time, and are less tiring for operators to use. For example, this nozzle simply slides laterally into place on the dunnage bag valve stem and locks itself there for hands off filling without manual pressure to press the nozzle axially against dunnage bag valve stems to open them, which is fatiguing with arms outstretched in the crowded spaces available. Damage is reduced that may result to dunnage bags when the filling nozzles are removed against the pressure of adjacent filled dunning bags and are withdrawn. These nozzles are simply pulled out laterally by the attached hose. The novel valve operation provides for opening of the dunnage bag valve stem by means of air pressure rather than manual force heretofore required for moving the valve stem axially into open position and holding it there. The filling valve provides air for filling the dunnage bag at a suitable pressure for rapid filling without danger of bursting the bags. Also the valve is connected to fill the dunnage bag with substantially no loss of air thus making operating costs lower.
