摘要: A method for forming a fire-retardant thermoplastic composite panel includes mixing a thermoplastic polymer with a fire-retardant additive to form a fire-retardant polymer composition and assembling a composite layup of a plurality of first layers and a plurality of second layers by alternatingly positioning the plurality of first layers and the plurality of second layers with each first layer including a fire-retardant polymer composition film of the fire-retardant polymer composition and each second layer including a carbon-fiber fabric. The method further includes compression molding the composite layup to form the fire-retardant thermoplastic composite panel.

摘要: An additively manufactured noise attenuation panel for a structure within an aircraft structure includes a plurality of unit cells, each including a central body interconnected via a plurality of tubes extending from the central body. The noise attenuation panel may include an increasing wall thickness in a desired direction. A layers of unit cells may be manufactured in a twisted orientation with respect to an immediately adjacent layer of unit cells. Layers of unit cells may be manufactured in a rounded or bent orientation with respect to a central axis. The noise attenuation panel may further comprise a disk and a blended transition located at the interface between the disk and an interior surface of a unit cell.

摘要: A joining method is provided during which a first thermoplastic component joint section and a second thermoplastic component joint section are arranged between first tooling and second tooling. The second thermoplastic component joint section is abutted against the first thermoplastic component joint section at a joint area. The first thermoplastic component joint section is joined to the second thermoplastic component joint section to provide a unitized thermoplastic structure. The joining includes: pressing the first thermoplastic component joint section against the second thermoplastic component joint section at the joint area between the first tooling and the second tooling using a pressure device; and heating the first thermoplastic component joint section and the second thermoplastic component joint section at the joint area using a first heater configured with the first tooling. The unitized thermoplastic structure is cooled at the joint area using a first cooler configured with the first tooling.

摘要: A method for welding thermoplastic composite components is provided that includes: providing a first thermoplastic composite component having a first weld region surface; providing a second thermoplastic composite component having a second weld region surface; disposing the first and second weld region surfaces in stationary contact with one another; ultrasonically welding the first and second thermoplastic composite components using a ultrasonic welding device having a sonotrode that linearly reciprocates, the welding including contacting an engagement surface of the first or second thermoplastic composite component with the sonotrode and reciprocating the sonotrode along a travel axis that is parallel to the first and second weld region surfaces until at least one of the first or second thermoplastic material reaches a melt temperature; and then maintaining the first and second weld region surfaces stationary until cooled.
