    摘要: A safety electrical grounding device having a housing for attachment to an air cushion vehicle, a generally Y-shaped solenoid plunger in the housing which has arms extending from the housing and carrying a metallic shoe with teeth thereon, a braided copper strap with one end attached to the plunger through an opening in the housing and the other end for connection to the vehicle, springs in the housing urging the plunger upward to disengage the shoe from a reaction rail when the vehicle is in motion, and a solenoid coil in the housing which urges the plunger downward when actuated to engage the shoe teeth with the reaction rail when the vehicle is halted to provide a positive ground for the vehicle.

    摘要: Propulsion mechanism for water craft comprises a power driven pulse jet pump which operates at a selected shallow immersion depth, preferably on a smooth wake created by a planing surface of the craft. The pump comprises a propulsion wheel having concavo-convex curved blades mounted with their concave sides facing in the direction of forward rotation of the wheel, and the tip edges of the blades are sharpened. At and above cruising speed the blades are immersed substantially less than one half of their width, and are so angularly adjusted that each blade slices cleanly into the wake and in effect severs a ''''chip'''' of water therefrom in somewhat the same manner as a blade of a power wood planer or metal-milling cutter. These water ''''chips'''', by inertia, are forced upwardly and around the concave faces of the blades, so that by a combination of the rotative orbit of the blades, and their curved conformation, the ''''chips'''' are discharged rearwardly through the air at a velocity greater than the tip speed of the blades, thereby generating a reaction thrust which propels the craft forward. The wheel preferably is vented to act additionally as an air impeller so as to discharge a high velocity air stream rearwardly along with the pulse jet stream of water ''''chips.

    摘要: Hydraulic system for moving common load or separate loads requires all drive members to move in synchronism. Two or more hydraulic servo motors are each provided with a hydraulically movable drive member. A synchronizing valve is interposed either in the conduit from the pressure fluid supply to each motor or in the conduit from each motor to the fluid reservoir to modulate the flow to its associated motor and includes two valve members which move with and with respect to each other. One valve member of each valve is attached to the drive member of its associated motor and the other valve member is attached to the drive member of the next preceding or succeeding motor so that all of the valves and motors are connected in a mechanical ''''closed-loop'''' series. When all motors are in synchronism, the two members of each valve move in the same direction in synchronism and do not affect the fluid flow. If any motor advances ahead of synchronism, the members of its associated valve are caused to move with respect to each other by mechanical linkages to restrict fluid flow and retard the leading motor until it is returned to synchronism. The system may be designed to onedirection operation or two-direction operation. In the onedirection system, a closed loop arrangement is not essential. In a modification, the valve porting may be arranged to restrict flow to the leading motor and also increase flow to the lagging motor to accelerate the return to synchronism. In a further modification, the porting may be shaped to give varying rates of change of flow for each increment of relative movement.

Extension of the thrust member carries the door half portions bodily outwardly from the door opening, and vice versa, while a pair of door folding links are connected at one end thereof, one to each door, and at the other end thereof to a spring biased anchor member to swing the door portions toward each other to folded condition on opposite sides of the thrust member when the latter is extended, and apart toward door closing position when the thrust member is retracted.

    摘要: Apparatus comprises elongate shroud surrounding all or part of jet engine. Aft portion of shroud extends rearward beyond exit end of jet nozzle to surround and control exhaust gas stream. Continuous peripheral passage or several discrete passages through shroud wall aft of nozzle exit provide flow paths for entry of free stream air to constitute aft portion of shroud an ejector barrel and for exit of exhaust gas stream to constitute aft portion of shroud a thrust reverser. Blocker doors, generally triangular in planform, are circumferentially spaced around interior of barrel with their bases pivotally mounted in the barrel and their apices pivotally mounted in a common mounting at the longitudinal axis of the shroud and forward of the base mountings so that the axes of rotation of the doors are disposed along radial planes from the engine axis and converge forward. Each door in stowed position lies in a plane containing the longitudinal axis of the shroud and rotates approximately 90* to fully deployed position in a transverse plane wherein the doors form a forwardly convex cone to block axial rearward flow and direct engine gases out through passages. Control ring is mounted in barrel in plane of base mounting of the doors for limited rotative movement of ring about engine axis, and is linkconnected to doors to rotate them about their axes. Actuator in barrel rotates control ring and can retain ring in any intermediate position for modulated thrust reversal.

    摘要: Method and means for upsetting a high strength rivet in a single operation which includes a housing having a cavity for receiving electrically conductive water. A transducer is mounted on the housing at one end of the cavity and has spaced electrodes defining a gap across which high voltage electrical energy is discharged to generate high velocity shock waves in the water. A piston in the housing at the other end of the cavity faces the transducer and moves in response to the application of shock wave forces transferred thereto through the water. A cavitated anvil is engaged with the upsettable end of a rivet and is moved by the piston to upset the rivet end by flowing it upon said application of shock wave forces to form a headed enlargement. The several parts of the device are proportioned in size, and weight and mass for dynamic balancing of forces and easy handling by a single worker. The electrical energy is delivered to the transducer by coupling means having high dielectric and strength properties for insuring the safety of the worker.

    摘要: Apparatus comprises elongate shroud surrounding jet engine. Aft portion of shroud extends rearwardly beyond stream. Passages through shroud wall aft of nozzle exit admit ambient air to define shroud aft portion as an ejector ring. A blocker door is provided for each passage and swings on lateral pivot from first forward position blocking forward portion of its passage, through intermediate positions partially blocking rearward flow of exhaust stream and redirecting portion of stream out through passages, to second full aft position where doors meet to block all rearward flow and redirect it out through passages. For supersonic flight afterburner operation, doors are bodily moved to fully block passages. Apparatus may be used with conventional jet or fan jet engines. Doors may be operated independently to modify the direction of the thrust vector.

    摘要: Machine path pulses produced by X, Y and Z slide movements of a numerically controlled machine are compared with pulses derived from the programmed data independently of those which produced the slide movements on command, extra temporary storage being employed to delay the production of the tracer path pulses to compensate for the machine position lag behind the electronic position produced by the command generator. Gated X, Y and Z updown counters, each counting up on its machine path pulses and down on its tracer path pulses, tend to establish a null condition within up and down count limits to either side of an initially set value. A gating network generates an off null signal when any of the counters exceeds the null limits. Clock signals modulated by the off null signal change the rate of generation of the tracer path pulses to thereby restore the counters to the null condition. When the off null signal persists longer than a predetermined interval, an error signal is produced to stop the machine operation.
