摘要: The present disclosure relates to use of rhamnolipid coated nanoparticles of zero valent iron (NZVI), either in its bare form or functionalized with other materials (M) such as trace amounts of a palladium catalyst, for transforming chlorinated solvent pollutants by targeting the non-aqueous phase, which contains said chlorinated solvent pollutants. The method may be useful as water treatment technology for restoration of groundwater resources contaminated with toxic, chlorinated solvent pollutants as well as in the treatment of industrial waste of chlorinated solvents in reactor systems.

摘要: There is provided a method of selectively differentiating mesenchymal stem cells into a first predetermined cell lineage associated with the nuclear localization of Yes-associated protein (YAP) or into a second predetermined cell lineage associated with the cytoplasmic localization of YAP. The curvature of the nucleus is controlled to have a maximum nuclear curvature (Kmax) of at least 0.5 μm−1 to select for the first predetermined cell lineage, or a Kmax that does not exceed 0.5 μm−1 to select for the second predetermined cell lineage. The mesenchymal stem cells having a controlled nuclear curvature are incubated in a media with or without differentiation additives to obtain the first predetermined cell lineage or the second predetermined cell lineage.

The compounds have been identified through methods of pharmacological screening of a small molecule library consisting of known pharmacologically active compounds and approved drugs. The screening method is also included in the invention.

摘要: Applicants have discovered a new low-cost and accessible method and apparatus that allowing for quicker and more precise state determinations based on medical images. The method and apparatus are non-intrusive and require providing a medical image of a subject and determining a state based on a comparison to a training image set comprising two or more states. There is provided, according to the present invention, a computer-implemented method for processing medical images comprising calculating non-local means patch-based weights comparing patches surrounding pixels of interest in a test image with a number of patches of pixels surrounding a corresponding number of pixels in reference images; and calculating for the pixels of interest at least one state estimation using a given state assigned to said reference images and said weights.

摘要: Described are protein constructs of Moloney murine leukemia virus reverse transcriptase (MMLV-RT). In one embodiment the protein construct comprises a Moloney murine leukemia virus reverse transcriptase (MMLV) mature protein sequence; and an expression enhancement sequence at the N-terminus of said MMLV mature protein sequence. The expression enhancement sequence is devised for providing heterologous expression of the protein construct in bacterial cells in absence of chaperone co-expression and/or to provide high-level of expression of the MMLV. In another embodiment the protein construct further comprises a tag/linker combo at the N-terminus of the expression enhancement sequence for assisting in purification of the protein construct. Also described are isolated nucleic acid molecules, vectors and methods for expressing the protein construct in cells. Advantageously these allow large-scale expression of MMLV-RT from cultures of E. coli cells and simplify protocols for purification of MMLV-RT at high purity.

摘要: A heating mechanism for use in DNA applications such as DNA amplification, extraction and sterilization is provided. Nanoparticles having photo-thermal properties are put in contact with a reaction mixture and irradiated with an activation light beam to activate these photo-thermal properties, thereby releasing heat. Nanoparticles of several types may be used. Use of the same nanoparticles or of different one to monitor the reaction using a different light beam is also presented.

摘要: System and method for generating candidate vocabulary words and presenting them to a user. The system compares an input image to reference images, based on text descriptions of the images, and determines relevant images. Stories associated with the relevant images are then analyzed to determine frequent words in the stories. In one embodiment, the frequent words are presented to the user as candidate words. In another embodiment, a vocabulary database is first accessed to determine other words that are associated with the frequent words in the stories. The frequent words in the stories and the other words from the vocabulary database are then provided to the user as candidate vocabulary words. The user can select desired candidate words through their computing device. In some embodiments, the stories are clustered together before word frequency is analyzed.
