摘要: A guide tube is used for guiding an instrument through a hole within tissue of a patient. The guide tube includes a cannula member defining a passage extending therethrough along an axis. The passage is operable to receive the instrument and guide the instrument through the hole within the tissue of the patient. The guide tube also includes an expansion member that is moveably coupled to the cannula member to selectively move radially between a retracted position and an expanded position relative to the axis of the cannula member. The expansion member is at least partially insertable into the hole when the expansion member is in the retracted position. The expansion member is operable to engage with a surface of the hole when the expansion member is in the expanded position.

摘要: Stereotactic systems and implantation methods that can be designed for use with a specific species and further customized for use with an individual within the species are provided. The stereotactic system can include an implant jig that can model a tissue or organ in which a target tissue area is located. A neurocap can be coupled to the implant jig for pre-planning and pre-placement of implants. A stencil can be used to determine the location for placement of the neurocap on the individual, so that the implants can be precisely targeted at the desired location. Pre-surgical information and data can be obtained from an individual and used to customize components of a stereotactic system, which can improve accuracy of implant placement.

摘要: Techniques, systems and apparatus for anchoring a therapy delivery device within a body portal are disclosed. An anchoring apparatus may comprise a first part comprising an outer sidewall and opposing grip surfaces. The outer sidewall may extend around a longitudinal axis of the apparatus to define an outer perimeter, at least a portion which may engage a surface of the body portal. A second part may comprise first and second activation members and a slot configured to receive the therapy delivery device. When the therapy delivery device is received in the slot and the second part is moved generally along the longitudinal axis, the first and second activation members may move the opposing grip surfaces toward one another to thereby anchor the therapy delivery device between the opposing grip surfaces.

摘要: Some embodiments of the present disclosure comprise improved systems and methods for monitoring physiological parameters such as intracranial pressure (“ICP”), intracranial temperature, and subject head position. For example, in some embodiments, an implantable apparatus for measuring ICP can be implanted into a subject skull. The apparatus can comprise an implant body having a hermetically sealed chamber housing a gas at a reference pressure, and a pressure conduction catheter having a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the distal end is configured to extend into the brain through a burr hole in the skull and includes a plurality of ports. A barrier can cover the ports of the distal end of the pressure conduction catheter, wherein the barrier and pressure conduction catheter are filled with a number of gas molecules so that the barrier is not in tension in a predefined range of ICPs.

摘要: A method of surgical navigation into the brain includes establishing a trajectory through the skull into the brain to a target, drilling a hole in the skull using a drill, and verifying the trajectory of the drilled hole during drilling using image guidance. A surgical navigation system includes a cannulated drill, a cannulated access member, and a coupling member for coupling the access member to the drill and for maintaining alignment of the cannulations in the drill and the access member. The access member is movable relative to the coupling member such that the access member can be secured to tissue while the coupling member maintains the alignment of the cannulations. A surgical kit includes a cannulated drill, a cannulated access member, a coupling member for coupling the access member to the drill, and a probe for receipt within the cannulated drill.

摘要: An endoscope particularly suited for endocranial procedures and a method of using the endoscope. In some examples the endoscope is rigid except for a bend/tilt portion near a distal end of a rigid tube that is inserted in a patient's cranium, which distal end is controlled in a degree and direction of tilt with a finger operated controller at the endoscope's handle. Some examples use telescoping tubes that allow customizing the endoscope size for specific procedures. A distal portion of the endoscope can be disposable, supplied in a sterile package for a single procedure, thus taking into account contamination dangers that are particularly high for intracranial and certain other interventions and the fact that it can be difficult or impossible to effectively autoclave heat-sensitive components of certain endoscopes or effectively sterilize them using other techniques.
