Abstract:
A bowling ball, including a spherical body defining an outer surface and at least one hole sized to receive a finger; and a depressible platform disposed within the at least one hole, where the platform is movable from a first position substantially adjacent to the outer surface to a second position subjacent to the outer surface.
Abstract:
An apparatus for analyzing movement of equipment. The apparatus includes an inertial measurement unit continuously measuring six rigid body degrees of freedom of the equipment and outputting data representative thereof, wherein the inertial measurement unit defines a planar substrate having a single common plane. The inertial measurement unit further includes at least one angular rate gyro and at least one accelerometer sufficient to measure the six rigid body degrees of freedom and each being mounted on the single common plane. The apparatus further includes a processing unit determining the acceleration of the mass center of the equipment, the angular velocity and the angular acceleration of the equipment through a single derivative operation.
Abstract:
A bowling ball with an indicia is provided. A method for manufacturing such a bowling ball is also provided. The indicia may be preformed and attached to the core of the bowling ball before the outer layer of the bowling ball is created.
Abstract:
A bowling ball surface treatment device for abrading, polishing or cleansing a bowling ball includes a housing, a ball displacing unit movably mounted to the housing for holding the bowling ball in a rotatable manner and for reciprocatingly displacing the bowling ball between a temporary waiting region and a surface treatment region, a surface treatment disc for supporting and spinning the bowling ball in the surface treatment region, the surface treatment disc having a surface treatment element for making frictional contact with the bowling ball, a temporary support disc for temporarily supporting the bowling ball in the temporary waiting region when the bowling ball is moved out of the surface treatment region, and a disc drive unit for rotatingly driving the surface treatment disc and the temporary support disc.
Abstract:
A bowling ball surface treatment machine includes a housing and a ball movement guider provided inside the housing for guiding movement of a bowling ball, the ball movement guider having a guider center axis and an inner circumferential surface. A surface treatment disc with a surface treatment is arranged below the ball movement guider for supporting and rotating the bowling ball. The surface treatment disc has a disc center axis deviating from the guider center axis. The machine further includes a disc driving motor for rotating the surface treatment disc about the disc center axis and a controller for allowing the disc driving motor to repeatedly accelerate the surface treatment disc to a target rotation speed, rotate the surface treatment disc in a surface treatment position at the target rotation speed for a predetermined running time and then decelerate the surface treatment disc toward a zero speed.
Abstract:
A bowling practice device for regularizing and perfecting bowling technique. An aerodynamically designed hollow body includes an outer wall and a cylindrical inner wall. The opposed ends of the outer wall taper to meet the cylindrical inner wall. The outer wall preferably comprises a plurality of foam panels, one of which includes at least two finger holes suitable for personalization to the hand of the bowler.
Abstract:
A bowling ball resurfacing apparatus comprises a housing, first and second vertical support rollers mounted to the housing for rotation about parallel vertical axes, each of the vertical support rollers adapted to make contact with the surface of the bowling ball at one lateral bottom side of the bowling ball, first and second horizontal support rollers mounted to the housing for supporting the bowling ball in cooperation with the vertical support rollers, each of the horizontal support rollers rotatable about horizontal axes and adapted to make contact with the surface of the bowling ball at the other lateral bottom side of the bowling ball, drive motors for causing the support rollers to rotate, and a grinding-and-polishing wheel assembly for making frictional contact with the surface of the bowling ball to grind or polish the bowling ball.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for making and/or decorating bowling balls and the like includes flexible transfer sheets with heat-activated ink applied to at least portions thereof. A form or mold with opposite halves, which shift between open and closed positions, includes a cavity sized to closely receive therein the article to be decorated. At least one transfer sheet is positioned in the mold with the article, such that when the mold is closed, the same are captured in the mold cavity in an overlying relationship. Heat is applied to the mold to a predetermined temperature causing the article to expand through thermal expansion, which expansion is resisted by the mold to uniformly press the transfer sheet against the underlying outer surface of the article, and also causing the heat-activated ink to transfer from the transfer sheet to the outer surface of the article to form the design thereon.
Abstract:
An insert system for the finger and thumb holes of a bowling ball and a method for installing the insert system. The insert system includes a master that is bonded inside each of the holes. A number of inserts are provided having different internal diameters, shapes, and pitches (the angle of the hole relative to the ball's surface). Inserts are also provided that have offset internal holes, to allow for changes in finger span by rotating the insert relative to the master. The master is provided with tapered inner and outer surfaces. The taper on the outer surface helps in bonding the master to the ball by providing voids that are filled with adhesive. The tapered inner surface cooperates with a tapered outer surface on the insert, to lock the insert to the master. A round head screw assembly is additionally provided with each insert to insure that a shock of impact will not loosen the fit between the master and the insert.
