摘要： A printing apparatus including a head holding unit movably configured to hold a thermal head so that the thermal head can be in a pressing state pressing against a platen and in a separated state separated from the platen, a conveyance mechanism configured to convey an ink ribbon and a recording sheet which are put on each other to a recording region between the thermal head and the platen, a reflection surface provided on the head holding unit, and a ribbon sensor configured to detect a marker applied on the ink ribbon, the ribbon sensor being provided on an opposite side to the reflection surface across a path of the ink ribbon which has passed through the recording region and been peeled from the recording sheet. The ribbon sensor includes a light emitting element and a light receiving element. The reflection surface is configured so that light incident from the light emitting element reaches the light receiving element in both the separated state and the pressing state.

摘要： A tape cassette is used in a printing device with a drive shaft. The tape cassette includes a cassette casing which houses a printing tape and defines a feed path through which the tape moves in a feeding direction. The cassette casing includes a head recess adapted to receive a print head of the printing device. The cassette casing forms a generally rectangular shape that is bounded by four corners, but also includes a recess for receiving the drive shaft adjacent a first corner of the four corner of the cassette casing downstream of, and spaced from, the head recess in the feed direction. The cassette casing defines a first positioning hole adjacent the drive shaft and a second positioning hole spaced from the drive shaft, the first and second positioning holes each communicating with a corresponding pin of the printing device to ensure a proper positioning of the cassette casing within the printing device. A detector surface is located on the cassette casing and is adapted to interact with an array of sensors on the printing device to identify at least one characteristic of the tape cassette. The detector surface is positioned at a second corner of the four corners of the cassette casing most distant from the first corner.

摘要： An ink switching cam (40) is rotated interlockingly with forward/reverse rotation of a head driving motor at all times to swing a cassette support member (20). Accordingly, ink belts can be switched with a simple construction without using a solenoid or the like. 摘要： A color printer includes an ink ribbon having a plurality of sequentially arranged dye regions, each of the dye regions having a plurality of dye frames for carrying dye of different colors, a ribbon driving device for causing the ink ribbon to move in a predetermined direction, a controller for controlling the color printer, and a plurality of optical detecting devices sequentially arranged and mounted adjacent to the ink ribbon. At least two output signals are detected when each of the optical detecting devices senses a dye frame, and each the output signal is defined as a phase. Position of the ink ribbon is discerned by the controller according to the phase and phase-to-phase variation recorded by the optical detecting devices when the controller commands the ribbon driving device to move the ink ribbon.

The second wall includes a recess spaced inwardly toward the head recess, and a discharge opening downstream of the support hole is located in the recess for discharging tape from the cassette housing.

A message urging the user to remove the ribbon cassette in order to perform a second printing is displayed. When the user opens the cassette cover, removes the ribbon cassette, and inputs using an optional or predetermined key, then a message warning the user not to mount a ribbon cassette is displayed and rewind of the tape is started. When the front edge of the tape is detected by a tape detection sensor, then rewind of the tape is stopped.

摘要： An ink ribbon assembly is disclosed which includes an ink ribbon, a support for the ink ribbon and data retention means associated with the support. The support, for example, may be a supply spool, a take-up spool, and a rotatable ring. The data retention means may be a nonvolatile memory. Data indicating the ink ribbon characteristics is stored in the memory. Such data may relate to data correcting production variations of ink, the type of ink on the ribbon, and the amount of ribbon left. The ink ribbon assembly is used with a printer device which reads the data from the data retention means, corrects the image printing information in accordance with the read correction data and performs the printing in accordance with the corrected image printing information.
