Abstract: Driving support ECU transmits a communication connection request to a help net center HNC when a driver of a vehicle has been determined to be in an abnormal state where the driver loses an ability to drive the vehicle, and when the communication connection to the help net center HNC has been established, the driving support ECU transmits the help signal (the positional information of the vehicle) and decelerates the vehicle at a constant deceleration to make the vehicle stop. On the other hand, when the communication connection to the help net center HNC has not been established, the driving support ECU makes the vehicle travel at a constant speed. Accordingly, it is possible to make the vehicle stop under a situation where the help net center HNC recognizes the vehicle position inside which the driver who has been determined to be in the abnormal state is.

Abstract: A driving assistance device includes a deceleration detection unit, an information calculation unit, and an index calculation unit. The information calculation unit obtains at least one type of front information including a time to collision until an own vehicle collides with a preceding vehicle, a time headway until the own vehicle reaches a position of the preceding vehicle, and a following distance between the own vehicle and the preceding vehicle when the own vehicle stops, after a deceleration start of the own vehicle. The index calculation unit obtains an index indicating a driving characteristic that is a characteristic of a driving operation of a driver, based on the front information.

Abstract: An electric starting system for an internal combustion engine is provided. The starting system includes a rechargeable battery including two voltage output terminals and an enable terminal, a battery receiver including a battery receptacle configured to receive the rechargeable battery, two voltage output terminals, and an enable terminal, a starter motor configured to start the internal combustion engine, and a continuous duty electrical load. The voltage output terminals of the lithium-ion battery and the battery receiver are configured to connect to complete a circuit between the rechargeable battery and the continuous duty electrical load when the rechargeable battery is attached to the battery receptacle.

Abstract: When a driving support electronic control unit (DSECU) determines that a driver of a vehicle is in an abnormal state where the driver loses an ability to drive the vehicle, the DSECU starts driving control under the abnormal state to decelerate the vehicle until the vehicle stops and to sound a horn. In this case, the DSECU measures an elapsed time since the horn starts sounding with a horn timer th, and sets a sounding pattern corresponding to the elapsed time measured. This sounding pattern is set in such a manner that a ratio of a sounding time of the horn per unit time decreases as the elapsed time since the horn starts sounding become longer. Thereby, it becomes possible to properly notify that the driver is in the abnormal state using the horn.

Abstract: Driving support ECU sets a driver's state to “temporarily abnormal” and decelerates a vehicle when a driver of the vehicle has been first determined to be in an abnormal state where the driver loses an ability to drive the vehicle. Driving support ECU changes the driver's state to “regularly abnormal” in a case when the abnormal state of the driver remains unchanged when a vehicle speed decreases to a set vehicle speed, and at this point, reports to a help net center HNC. With this configuration, a report to the help net center HNC can be made at an appropriate timing.

Abstract: A wheel chair with several new and useful features is provided. Those new and useful features provide the wheel chair with enhanced lateral stability, automatic cocking of an automatic locking device whenever an occupant sits in the wheel chair, and a holding mechanism that enables the wheel chair to be freely wheeled about when there is no occupant, and automatically move to a cocked state as soon as an occupant sits on the chair. The result is an automatic locking system for a manual wheelchair that unlocks the wheels for intentional motion when the chair is occupied, and locks the wheelchair wheels immediately when it is unoccupied, yet in no way interferes with the typical locking mechanism of the standard manual wheelchair when so desired.
