A booster pressure which is required for operating the brake booster is produced by throttling a flow of pressure medium which is supplied by a pump. For this purpose, a throttle valve is arranged between a pressure line which is connected to the pump and a return line which leads back to the pump, the adjustment of said pressure valve involves a building up of booster pressure in the pressure line by a solenoid, which booster pressure is applied to the brake booster. An electronic control unit which is connected to at least one sensor which outputs variable electric signal serves to control the throttle valve, the sensor detects activation of the brake pedal.
