A composition and method for producing a tertiary amine is disclosed. The tertiary amine is contacted with an inert gas. The inert gas is nitrogen or more preferably argon. The amine composition is useful in producing polyurethane foam with lower levels of chemical emissions particularly lower emissions of toxic chemicals.

A two component polyurethane coating system is disclosed in which the pot life is extended while retaining rapid cure. The system employs a first component which is a solution of a soluble resin containing active hydrogen atoms capable of reacting with isocyanate functionality, and said first component has dispersed therein an amine catalyst for the reaction absorbed in a molecular sieve having a pore size large enough to absorb the amine catalyst. The molecular sieve minimizes the catalytic effect of the amine catalyst when the two components are mixed until after the absorption of atmospheric moisture forces the sieve to release the catalyst to speed the cure. The second component comprises a solution of an organic polyisocyanate, this solution containing an organotin accelerator which has been deactivated with acetic acid or formic acid which minimizes the accelerating effect of the accelerator when the two components are mixed until after vaporization of the acid frees the accelerator to speed the cure.

A continuous process forms a unitary mat on a line having at least two conveyors spaced from each other. The process includes combining the isocyanate, an isocyanate catalyst, and a plurality of lignocellulosic particles to form a mixture and a self-polymerization product of the isocyanate in-situ in the mixture. The process also includes forming the unitary mat from the mixture on a first conveyer and transferring the unitary mat from the first conveyor to a second conveyor across a predetermined distance while maintaining structural integrity of the unitary mat. The lignocellulosic particles have a moisture content of 0.5 to 30 weight percent of water. Moreover, the continuous process is free of a step of adding water to the isocyanate, the isocyanate catalyst, the lignocellulosic particles, and/or the unitary mat.

A polyurethane used for orthopedics external fixing system in complex environment is obtained by reaction of mixture of polyether polyol with modified isocyanate in the weight ratio of 1:0.6-0.75. The modified isocyanate is obtained by reaction of polyphenylene polymethylene isocyanate with polyether glycol. The components and corresponding weight percent amounts of the mixture of polyether polyol are as follows: 60-65% polyether polyol; 0.3-1% catalyst; 0.1-2% foam stabilizer; 0.1-2% or 3-20% foaming agent; 25-40% filler and 0.5-2% functional auxiliary agent. The method of producing the polyurethane is also provided.

An object of the present invention is to provide a catalyst for producing a rigid polyurethane foam and an isocyanurate-modified rigid polyurethane foam excellent in storage stability in the case that water is contained as a blowing agent, and a raw material-blended composition using the same.In the present invention, a catalyst composition comprising the following amine compounds of (A) and (B) and/or (C) is used and further, a raw material-blended composition further containing a polyol component and water is used. The present invention provides a process, which includes: partially trimerizing isophorone diisocyanate in the presence of a catalyst having the formula: [R—NX3]⊕Y⊖ wherein R and X are butyl groups and Y− is CH3COO−; or wherein R is a benzyl group, Y− is a carboxylate anion having from 4 to 8 carbon atoms and each X is an alkylene group having from 2 to 3 carbon atoms, wherein the three alkylene groups share a common carbon atom and, together with the N atom in the formula, form a tricyclic structure, and wherein at least one alkyene group has at least one OH group in an &agr; or &bgr; &ggr; position relative to the N atom, to obtain a monomer-containing polyisocyanurate mixture. The present invention also provides a monomer-containing polyisocyanurate mixture made from the above process.

A chemical binder comprising: an ester-based polyol; an isocyanate; and a catalyst capable of catalyzing a reaction between the ester-based polyol and the isocyanate. Preferably, the chemical binder is used in a mouldable mixture comprising a particulate aggregate and the chemical. Such a mouldable mixture would be in, for example, a disposable foundry mould or core. A process for producing a free-standing mould and a process for cast a metal are also described.
