The object of the invention is to provide an aqueous coating agent which I applied onto a recording medium in the ink-jet system to form a film excellent in scratch resistance, water resistance and gloss on the surface of an image, and an aqueous coating solution containing this aqueous coating agent. The means for solving is an aqueous coating agent for pigment ink-jet, which is characterized by comprising a graft copolymer that has a silicone-based side chain, and an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid-containing monomer as an essential constituent in a main chain, and has an acid value in the range from 40 to 200 mg-KOH/g (solid) and a weight-average molecular weight in the range from 5,000 to 30,000; and an aqueous coating solution for pigment ink-jet comprising the aqueous coating agent which is characterized in that the aqueous coating solution is charged into a tank different from a tank for pigment ink, and is ejected and applied onto a recorded material from a nozzle different from a nozzle for pigment ink in ink-jet system.

This invention relates to latex polymers and blends of such latex polymers used to produce articles having superior electrostatic dissipative properties. The polymers and blends comprise one or more (1) polymers, in latex, or dispersion form, of (a) at least one reactive macromer of at least one alkylene oxide having at least one functional group capable of free-radical transformation, (b) optionally, at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer having at least one carboxylic acid group, and (c) optionally, one or more free radically polymerizable comonomers, and (2) one or more other polymer latexes or dispersions of such polymers as natural rubber, conjugated-diene-containing polymers, hydrogenated styrene-butadiene triblock copolymers, chlorosulfonated polyethylenes, ethylene copolymers, acrylic and/or methacrylic ester copolymers, vinyl chloride copolymers, vinylidene chloride copolymers, polyisobutylenes, polyurethanes, polyureas, and poly-urethane-urea)s.

Provided are aqueous paints with which paint films which have excellent paint film properties such as water resistance and resistance to chemical attack, and excellent finished appearance are obtained, and which have excellent painting operability and storage stability. The invention further provides water dispersible acrylic based graft copolymers, aqueous paints incorporating same and a method to make such paints, wherein an unsaturated bond-containing acrylic based copolymer (a) obtained by reacting an acrylic based copolymer (a1) of acid value 35-120 mg.KOH/gram, hydroxy group value 50-150 mg.KOH/gram, glass transition temperature -20.degree.-+50.degree. C. and number average molecular weight 4500-9000 and an unsaturated monomer mixture (a2), which has functional groups which can react with hydroxy groups, in a mol ratio of a2/a1=0.4-1.5, and a monomer composition (b) compounded in such a way that the acid value is not more than 15 and the hydroxy group value is 50-150 are reacted in the proportions by weight of a/b=10/90-60/40 to produce the claimed water dispersible acrylic based graft copolymer.

A graft copolymer dispersant (binder) having a weight average molecular weight of about 5,000-100,000 wherein: (1) the graft copolymer has a polymeric backbone formed by polymerizing ethylenically unsaturated monomers; (2) the graft copolymer has macromonomer side chains attached to the backbone at a single terminal point that have weight average molecular weights of about 1,000-30,000 and are formed from by polymerizing ethylenically unsaturated monomers in the presence of a cobalt chain transfer agent. The graft copolymer further contains about 2 to 70% by weight, based on the weight of the graft copolymer, of polymerized constituents having a phosphate moiety or phosphoric acid moleties that are polymerized into the backbone, the side chains, or both. The graft copolymer is neutralized with an inorganic base or an amine.

Hydroxy functional polysiloxane graft copolymers are provided. The copolymer is crosslinkable by hydroxy-reactive crosslinking agent and, in particular, is suitable for use in thermosetting coating compositions adapted to form a flexible cured coating over a variety of substrates, such as metal and plastic. The copolymer has a number average molecular weight between about 1000 and about 15,000, has a hydroxyl number between about 30 and about 300, and is the reaction product of carbon-carbon double bond-reactive monoethylenically unsaturated monomer with hydroxy functional carbon-carbon double bond-bearing branched polysiloxane macromer. The macromer is the reaction product of (i) epoxy monomer having the formula: ##STR1## with (ii) hydroxy functional polysiloxane reactant containing 0-10 urethane linkages per molecule.
