    摘要: The invention concerns one or more floating barriers for use together with a conventional floating barrier for use in collecting oil on a water surface. The floating barriers are of the kind where the submerged part is partially penetrable for water and oil, thereby providing an impeding but not blocking effect on a passing flow of water. The function of the floating barriers is based on the fact that by disposition upstream relative to the conventional floating barrier and together with the latter they will constitute a total system which can be moved through an oil-contaminated body of water with substantially greater speed than a conventional floating barrier, without leaking oil behind the floating barrier system. The invention particularly concerns conditions of the geometry, spacing and draught of the water-penetrable liquid barriers.

    摘要: This invention bode is to confine potential oil spills while transfer in, between a ship and a wharf, or between two ships. It is made of a barrier that is fitted on a IS beam fixed on the wharf on which the barrier can be moved vertically with a float, according to the waterline. This barrier is mobile and detachable, of a mechanical. pneumatic or hydraulic type, and can be easily operated by one man. A waterproof canvas is placed on the mechanical barrier to confine the oil slick; a spring thrusts a shoe against the hull of the ship and is kept in place by magnets. A mechanical arm slides against the hull, with the help of balls. A hydraulic alternative stops oil diffusion by creating a current. A pneumatic alternative uses a curtain of bubbles that burst at the surface and hold the oil while creating a current.

    摘要: An arrangement for a boom for confining and collecting escaped oil, or the like, having a tubular casing and a shield part attached thereto. A plurality of spaced dividing walls are disposed within the tubular casing. The tubular casing is movable between a collapsed rest position and an expanded operational position. Expansion devices are attached to the tubular casing and are movable between a folded position and an unfolded position. Biasing members are attached to the expansion devices for urging the expansion devices into the unfolded position so that the tubular casing is moved into the expanded position. A valve is operatively attached to the tubular casing so that air may flow into the tubular casing through the valve when the tubular casing is expanded. An impervious flexible sheet material has a mid-portion and opposite side edges sealingly attached to the inside of the tubular casing so that the bottom end portions of the sheet hang. A chamber is defined between the hanging bottom end portions and the inside wall of the tubular casing. The chamber is open downwardly so that air may fill the chamber when the tubular casing is in the expanded position to provide buoyancy of the boom even when the boom is damaged.

    摘要: An improved containment barrier or boom section of the type having a flotation means for supporting the barrier or boom on the surface of a liquid body such as a lake, harbor, river, ocean, or the like, and also having a sinking means such as a flexible skirt section coupled to the bottom of the flotation means and extending below the surface, the skirt section containing ballast and, preferably, a tension member, to contain contamination or material floating on or near the surface, such as an oil spill, usually on one side thereof. End connectors are provided at each end of the barrier section for coupling to additional barrier or boom sections and/or to a towing means for deployment and/or recovery. The flotation means comprises an elongated tubular member having a cavity extending throughout the elongated length thereof and the tubular member is flexible. A transversely rigid and longitudinally compressible-expandable means is positioned in the cavity of the tubular member throughout the length thereof and holds the tubular member in a predetermined cross-sectional configuration, such as circular or any other desired shape. Vent means are provided to allow passage of air from regions external the flotation means into the cavity of the tubular member. The barrier or boom may be compressed in the longitudinal direction due to the flexibility of the tubular member and the transversely rigid and longitudinally compressible-expandable means to a storage or handling condition having a longitudinal length a fraction of the length in the elongated or deployed condition. The tubular member is substantially maintained in the predetermined cross-sectional configuration in both the stored and deployed condition. Additional flotation means may be provided in the tubular member to insure any desired degree of buoyancy for the boom. In the stored condition the tubular member folds in a manner similar to accordion-type folding.
