A blade pitch driving apparatus of a wind-driven generator and a driving method therefor are adapted to receive an external electrical power and impel a blade toward a corresponding pitch angle according to a pitch command. The apparatus includes an UPS, a permanent magnet synchronous motor drive (PMSM drive), an AC pitch motor (ACPM) and a hub controller. The hub controller normally switches the external power to the PMSM drive, receives the pitch command and control the ACPM to impel the blade toward the corresponding pitch angle. When the PMSM drive fails or the external electrical power is interrupted, the hub controller switches the electrical power of the UPS to the ACPM and controls the blade being impelled toward a feathered position.

A wind turbine has a plurality of feathering blades and a governor for controlling the pitch angle of the blades according to the speed of rotation of the turbine. An elastic linkage connects between the governor and the blades. The linkage urges the blades toward the pitch position set by the governor. The linkage allows pitching of the blades toward a more feathered position than a position set by the governor against the elastic return force. The linkage does not allow substantial pitching of the blades to a less feathered position than the position set by the governor, lne centrifugal governor sets the minimum pitch angle of the blades, but the blades can react immediately to additional wind pressure by self feathering against the urging of the elastic linkage.

The invention relates to a wind generator of the type with automatic power regulation, comprising at least one propeller having at least two blades (21), whereby the efficiency of one propeller varies inversely to a variation in the wind energy, from a lower wind speed limit. The torque/speed characteristics of each propeller are determined such that the working point begins to move towards the areas of low aerodynamic efficiency when the wind speed approaches the value at which the generator reaches the maximum, safety-compliant power. The inventive wind generator is characterized in that it also comprises: at least one centrifugal counter weight system (24) which is arranged such as to reduce the pitch of at least one part of the blades when the speed of rotation is increasing; and at least one system comprising an end stop (30) and return (15) or compression (25) means which mechanically define the initial working pitch and the optimum working pitch up to the nominal speed. The blades are resiliently biased towards a rest position wherein the inner section of each blade lies in a plane at an angle to the plane of rotation of the blades and the outer sections extend outwardly in a plane at an angle to the plane of the inner section and at a pitch angle to the plane of rotation. The configuration is such that the blades vary their pitch angles automatically in response to variations in wind speed and in the torsional load applied to the shaft, decreasing in pitch in response to increasing wind speed and increasing in pitch in response to increasing load.

A windmill for generating electricity in which each blade of the air-screw is connected to the hub by means of at least two resilient strips which are oppositely inclined both in the plane of rotation of the blade and in a plane extending through the rotational axis of the hub. This arrangement results in automatic pitch increase of the blades with increase of air-screw rotation due to the increasing centrifugal force exerted on the blades. This regulates air-screw speed and prevents excessive speed, especially at low load under high-speed wind. This pitch-varying mechanism can also be applied to automotive cooling fans. In accordance with another characteristic, the windmill proper consisting of the air-screw and the electric generator driven thereby, is attached to the supporting tower by a spring system, whereby any shock imparted to the windmill by wind gust, or sudden changes of direction of the wind, will be absorbed by this resilient mounting, thereby diminishing the stresses imparted to the support tower.
