An energy absorber assembly for use with a safety harness comprises a connector, a bracket assembly, a fastener, and an energy absorber. The connector is configured and arranged to operatively connect to the safety harness. The fastener operatively connects the bracket assembly and the connector, and the fastener releases the bracket assembly from the connector when subjected to a predetermined load. The energy absorber operatively connects the bracket assembly and the connector, and the energy absorber includes a first portion and a second portion that separate to absorb shock after the bracket assembly is released from the connector.

An energy dissipating link includes: an elongated base having opposite, first and second end portions; and a plurality of touch fasteners permanently coupled to the base, each of the plurality of touch fasteners releasably engageable with at least one other of the touch fasteners. The plurality of touch fasteners is arranged on the base to form first and second closures, each including engagements between respective fastening elements of two or more of the plurality of touch fasteners. The plurality of touch fasteners is configured such that: in response to a tensile load applied to the end portions of the base, the engaged touch fasteners of the first closure are loaded in shear along a shear plane; and in response to a tensile overload condition causing shear displacement of the touch fasteners of the first closure, the engaged touch fasteners of the second closure are subjected to a peel load.

An aquatic receptacle with a sectioned floating rim that, while floating, maintains an opening for receiving articles into the receptacle. Embodiments can include an escape barrier over the mouth of the receptacle to prevent loss of contents while floating. One embodiment has a lanyard that can attach the receptacle to a diver, allowing it to float and be pulled along by the diver. A lanyard can have a breakaway mechanism that can detach the receptacle from a diver or other structure if sufficient force is applied to the lanyard. There can also be a shock-arrest mechanism that reduces the amount of force exerted on a diver or structure before the lanyard breaks. Force exerted on the lanyard pulls the floatable rim at least partially beneath the water surface causing the sections of the floatable rim come together and close over the mouth of the container to prevent loss of articles within the container.

An energy absorbing system has an inner tube and an outer tube that are stitched together. The inner tube contains a set of fibers oriented in a first direction and the outer tube has a second set of fibers oriented in a direction different from the first direction. Preferably these orientations are equal and opposite to each other. The inner tube may be hollow, but preferably has a cellular core. The outer tube may be spaced apart from the inner tube to create an annular cavity that is filled with a cellular material.

Disclosed is a textile damping material which has the structure of a flexible, three-dimensional, textile spacing structure (50) which is stable in respect of shape. The spacing structure (50) has an upper layer portion (7) and a lower layer portion (9) which are made up of single-thread or multi-thread yarn, wherein the two layer portions (7, 9) are spaced from each other and connected to each other by elastic pile threads (8).Also disclosed is an impact and water absorbing mat for motor vehicles and a tee-off golfing mat, each obtained by use of the textile damping material. The tee-off golfing mat has a damping layer (10).

A shock absorber as designed for use in fall protection systems and may be incorporated integrally with either a belt or lanyard or may be used as a separate component in conjunction with conventional belts and lanyards. A shock absorbing mechanism of the invention utilizes a piercing member having smooth edges which pierce a piece of webbing material. When force is applied to opposite ends of the shock absorber, the piercing member stretches and breaks latitudinal fibers of the webbing material. This allows near complete retention of the strength of the longitudinal fibers as those fibers are not damaged during the absorbing operation.

A tear-away energy absorbing webbing (10) is a one-piece webbing. The tear-away energy absorbing webbing (10) has a top layer load-bearing web (12) and a bottom layer load-bearing web (24). An energy absorbing portion (38) of the webbing has binder yarns (36) interlaced with the top and bottom layer load-bearing webs (12, 14). A sufficiently high load force applied to the webbing breaks the binder yarns (36) and tears apart the top and bottom layer load-bearing webs (12, 14). The energy absorbing portion (38) absorbs energy as it tears apart. The top and bottom layer load-bearing webs (12, 14) support the load force when the shock absorbing portion is torn apart.
