Disclosed is a dual-clutch transmission, using two input shafts (1, 2) and two driving shafts (3, 18), realizing seven forward gears (D1, D2, D3, D4, D5, D6, D7) and a reverse gear (R), eliminating a special reverse gear shaft for the reverse gear (R), and using eight synchronizers (S1, S2, S3, S4) to control the switching of all of the eight gears, namely the seven forward gears (D1, D2, D3, D4, D5, D6, D7) and the reverse gear (R), wherein part of the gears share a driving gear, so that the quantity of total parts and the axial length of the transmission are reduced; since the diameters of driven gears (14, 15, 16) of low-speed gears are relatively large, engagement sleeves of the corresponding synchronizers (S2, S3) can be arranged on the inner sides of the driven gears (14, 15, 16) according to structural arrangement requirements, so that an axial space is greatly saved; and the reverse gear shaft and a gear thereon are eliminated, the saved space facilitates the arrangement of a gear shaft fork mechanism, the supporting point of a gear shift fork can be close to the centers of the driving shafts (3, 18) and a gear shift execution mechanism in the absence of obstructions of the reverse gear shaft and the gear thereon, which is beneficial to the force distribution of the shift fork mechanism.

The driving connections generally include a drive pulley, a driven pulley and a belt. The pulleys each comprise a fixed portion and an axially moveable portion. Movement between the two portions changes an effective diameter of the pulley. The moveable portions of the drive pulley are positioned next to one another on the first shaft and the moveable portions are interposed between the fixed portions of the drive pulleys. The fixed portions of the driven pulleys, on the other hand, are interposed between the moveable portions. The driven pulleys are free to rotate relative to the second shaft. A differential is positioned between the fixed portions of the driven pulleys, connects the two fixed portions and transfers the torque from the driven pulleys to the second shaft.

Various configurations of a continuously variable transmission include a drive pulley, a driven pulley and a belt extending therebetween. The drive pulley is generally comprised of a moveable sheave half and a fixed sheave half. The moveable sheave half is freely rotatable relative to the drive shaft and the fixed sheave half. Torque is transferred between the moveable sheave half and the stationary sheave half through the use of a roller bearing and channel race arrangement; however, the roller bearings are freely translatable within the channel races. The continuously variable transmission also features a differential positioned between the two output pulleys and an articulating member positioned between the two input pulleys. These two members operate together to eliminate bucking of the belts caused by differences in driven speeds of the two driven pulleys in a parallel configuration of the variable speed transmission. Additionally, a method of assembling the transmission is also described.

A control apparatus of an automated manual transmission includes an input shaft provided with a plurality of drive gears, an output shaft provided with a plurality of driven gears engaged with the drive gears, and a reverse idler gear engaging with gears for backward movement respectively provided at the input and output sides when a backward moving stage is selected, as a mechanism for backward moving. Further, there is provided with a bypass clutch capable of selectively transmitting or shutting a power of the input shaft to the output shaft. When the backward moving stage is selected (S1), the bypass clutch is engaged (S3) so as to stop a rotation of the input shaft (S4), and thereafter, the reverse idler gear and the backward moving gears are engaged with each other (S5). Thus, a shift operation to a reverse mode can be securely and smoothly executed for a short time.

A steplessly variable ratio transmission unit with swingable rollers (11, 12) interconnecting input and output toroidal discs (1, 2, 10), the swing of the rollers (11, 12) being controlled by a ratio actuator (146, 148) supplied by a pump (174) at a pressure controlled by a ratio valve (186). At an end of the stroke of the ratio actuator an end-stop valve (150) is actuated to constrict the flow to the ratio valve (186), and the raised pressure up-stream of a constriction (140, 142) in valve 150 acts on a piston (140) of that valve urging the ratio actuator (146, 148) away from the end of its stroke so that the rollers (11, 12) cannot run off the discs (1, 2, 10). A complete transmission system provides a First Regime with recirculation in planetary gearing and a Second Regime with drive through the transmission unit alone. In First Regime, at the lowest transmission unit ratio, that ratio and the overall system ratio are the same. The gearing comprises a "mixing" epicyclic gear (76) with pairs of meshed planet pinions (80, 126) and a simple "matching" epicyclic gear (107) the annuli (78, 113) whereof are coupled together, the transmission unit (1, 2, 10, 11, 12) being bridged across the sun gears (75, 108), the system output (104) being taken from the mixing epicyclic planet carrier (77). The matching epicyclic planet carrier (110) is "earthed" via a sprag (115, 118) to establish First Regime. A Second Regime clutch (89) locks up the mixing epicyclic whereupon the sprag (115, 118) overruns to release First Regime automatically.

A drive transfer gear assembly for a four-wheel drive truck tractor. The tractor includes a front drive steer axle assembly, a rear drive axle assembly containing the drive transfer gear assembly, and a prime mover drivingly connected to the front and rear drive mechanisms by the drive transfer gear assembly. The front axle assembly includes a rigid axle housing having end sections and a drop center section containing a differential gear set with output gears drivingly connected to wheels pivotally journaled at the outboard ends of the rigid axle housing. The rear axle assembly includes a differential gear set with output gears drivingly connected to the rear wheels, and a drive transfer gear assembly positioned forwardly of the differential gear set. The drive transfer gear assembly includes a torque proportioning planetary gear set, an angled tooth clutch for locking the planetary gear set in response to front wheel spinout, a manual clutch for preventing differentiation of the gears in the planetary gear set, and a torque limiting clutch for preventing overtorque to the front wheel drive mechanism. The angled tooth clutch including an axially slideable annular member mounted on the input shaft of the planetary gear set and movable into clutching coaction with the sun gear of the planetary, and the manual clutch includes an annular member slideably mounted in piggyback fashion on the outer periphery of the annular member on the output shaft and movable into locking engagement with the sun gear of the planetary.
