Abstract: A barcode reader has a weigh platter and an off-platter detection assembly. The weigh platter is configured to measure a weight of an object and has a surface extending in a first transverse plane, a proximal edge, a first lateral edge extending non-parallel to the proximal edge, and a distal edge. The off-platter detection assembly includes a light emission assembly and a light detection assembly. The light emission assembly is configured to emit a collimated light beam along the first lateral edge, above the surface. The light diffusing barrier is positioned in a path of the collimated light beam and is configured to diffuse the light beam such that the light diffusing barrier appears to be illuminated when contacted by the light beam and appears not to be illuminated when not contacted by the light beam.

Abstract: Non-homogeneous products on a shelf are tracked using weighing assemblies jointly operable to measure the weight of the shelf and of the products. Weight measurement data is monitored and transmitted as streams of weight measurement data points. Responsively to a change in the values of the data, a set of weight-event parameters is determined including a product identification and an action taken with respect to the product. The determining includes aggregating, across all of the streams, changes in the weight measurement data corresponding to a specific time, mapping a change in weight distribution on the shelf, using the aggregated changes in weight measurement data, and assigning a set of weight-event parameters for resolving the mapped change in weight distribution. The product identification is based at least in part on per-product weight data retrieved from a product database.

Abstract: An active foodware system includes a visual-stimulating component for displaying information related to a plurality of sensing components, such as load cells, sensing weight of food on respective dining surfaces of supporting dining plates. A mechanical structure supports and positions the dining plates in a constrained relationship to each other, and cavities in the mechanical structure may unattachedly mate with the dining plates. A wireless communication component wirelessly sends weight data to the visual-stimulating component, such as a mobile phone or tablet computer. The system is configured to determine calories of the food, and the system may include a camera for sensing the food or a diner. The visual-stimulating component may display information other than information provided by a scale, and auditory and haptic stimuli may also be provided.

Abstract: A laboratory weighing kit comprises two layers: a disposable paper-structured weighing boat in the upper layer and a corresponding-shaped weighing base in the lower layer. The weighing boat has a sample loading portion in the rear to carry chemicals or samples, and a funnel portion in the front to transfer samples. In order to consolidate storage space, either the front funnel can be opened to two portions or the back wall of the weighing boat is opened.
