    摘要: A safety structure for detecting fluid leakage from a valve having an exposed end of a rotatable valve stem connected to a valve element within the valve for rotating the valve element between an open and a closed position. The safety structure comprises a jacket, and an elongated handle extension disposed within the jacket for rotation about its axis. The handle extension includes an end which extends outward from the jacket for turning the handle extension. The jacket terminates in an annular flange which is attached to the valve in an isolating configuration having the exposed end of the valve stem covered, and the handle extension connected to valve stem via a slot on the lower end of the handle extension and a pair of opposed flats on the covered end of the rotatable valve stem over which the slot extends for transferring the rotation of the handle extension to the valve stem. A sealed chamber in the jacket surrounds the elongated handle and extends along the handle in the isolating configuration to communicate with the rotatable valve stem and isolate the covered end of the rotatable valve stem. A leakage detector is connected to a sniffer port in the jacket which communicates with the sealed chamber and detects leakage from the valve around the rotatable valve stem. A fluid reservoir is connected with a collection port in the jacket which communicates with the sealed chamber and collects fluid leakage from the valve around the rotatable valve stem.

    摘要: A portable (handheld) volatile organic compound monitoring system for monitoring, for fugitive emissions, a device that includes a coded identification tag. The system includes a housing, a tag reader, analysis chamber structure, a sample probe coupled to the analysis chamber, and pump structure for drawing a gas sample to be analyzed through the sample probe into the analysis chamber. Ionization apparatus is coupled to the analysis chamber for ionizing a gas sample drawn into the analysis chamber from the device being monitored, and a sensor responsive to ionized gas in the chamber produces an output signal as a function of an ionization characteristic of the ionized gas. First storage stores a plurality of response factors as a function of various types of volatile organic compounds to be monitored, second storage stores tag information read by the tag reader, and circuitry responsive to tag information stored in the second storage selects a response factor from the first storage. Microprocessor apparatus responsive to tag information, selected response factor information, and the sensor output signal produces an output indicative of volatile organic compound (VOC) concentration at the monitored device.

    摘要: A safety structure for detecting fluid leakage from a valve having an exposed end of a rotatable valve stem connected to a valve element within the valve for rotating the valve element between an open and a closed position.     摘要: In accordance with the resent invention, there is provided a fugitive emission detection system for use in conjunction with a valve having a packing deign which includes a primary packing and a secondary packing. The valve further includes a leak port which is disposed within the valve bonnet between the primary and secondary packings. The detection system is operative to maintain the leak port in a normally open state. As a result, any fluid leakage past the primary packing is normally sent to the detection system, as opposed to being applied to and thus pressurizing the secondary packing. In the event of that a prescribed level of fluid leakage beyond the primary packing is detected, the leak port will be closed. The closure of the leak port facilitates the pressurization of the secondary packing.

    摘要: A process and apparatus for detecting small gas leaks in filled, pressurized containers. Each container to be tested, or that portion of each container to be tested, is enclosed and sealed in a test chamber. The space within the test chamber is evacuated to remove any residual gas or liquid within the chamber or on the surfaces of the container. Thereafter, the evacuated chamber is sealed and held for a predetermined period of time to permit any gas leaking from the container to accumulate and diffuse throughout the chamber. A quantity of carrier gas is then introduced into the test chamber and held therein for a predetermined period of time so that the carrier gas and leakage gas may co-mingle and equilibrate. This provides an equilibrated, fixed volume of carrier gas-leakage gas mixture, the leakage gas content of which is dependent only upon the leak rate of the container. The equilibrated mixture is then transferred to a sensor. The signal produced by the sensor for each container tested is compared to the sensor's response to a predetermined leak standard of acceptable value. A method is also provided to compensate for contamination of the carrier gas and for drift of the sensor.
