The interrogation system may include an optical frequency comb source having a plurality of narrowband optical carriers transmitting light to the plurality of optical sensors. Each of the plurality of optical sensors may include a pair of partial reflectors to reflect the light transmitted by the optical frequency comb to one or more optical receivers to receive the reflection signals In some aspects, the interrogation system may include a de-interleaver device for separating reflected light signals having adjacent wavelength into separate optical waveguides. In additional aspects, interrogation system may also include a data processing system having a processing device for performing interferometric measurements using the reflected light signals.

The device comprises first and second optical carrier emitters for emitting light in first and second subcarriers at first and second frequencies or polarisations respectively. An interleaver is provided for interleaving the first and second modulated subcarriers into the optical signal. Methods and systems for partial integration of wavelength division multiplexing and bi-directional solutions are disclosed and may include, an optical transceiver on a silicon photonics integrated circuit coupled to a planar lightwave circuit (PLC). The silicon photonics integrated circuit may include a first modulator and first light source that operates at a first wavelength and a second modulator and second light source that operates at a second wavelength. The transceiver and PLC are operable to modulate a first continuous wave (CW) optical signal from the first light source utilizing the first modulator driven by a first electrical signal and modulate a second CW optical signal from the second light source utilizing the second modulator driven by a second electrical signal. The modulated signals may be communicated from the modulators to the PLC utilizing a first pair of grating couplers in the IC and combined in the PLC.

An optical data center network system including multiple tier-1 optical switches, multiple tier-2 optical switches and multiple tier-3 optical switches is provided. A pod is formed by the tier-1 optical switches connected to each other through ribbon fibers. A macro pod is formed by the tier-2 optical switches connected to each other through ribbon fibers, and each of the tier-2 optical switches is connected to all of the tier-1 optical switches in one pod. The tier-3 optical switches are connected to each other through ribbon fibers, and each of the tier-3 optical switches is connected to all of the tier-2 optical switches in one macro pod. Each optical switch in each tier is implemented by using the Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS) as a basic element, which has been commercialized numerously.
