A plurality of telecommunications connections are installed in a distribution network by connecting a series of distribution points using a multicore cable comprising a plurality of cores having a common enclosure, some of the cores carrying fiber tubes into which optical fiber may later be introduced, and other cores carrying an electrical power supply. One or more cores may be diverted from a longer cable run to serve a local distribution point by rupturing a web connecting the core to the rest of the cable, thus allowing the remaining cores to be uninterrupted at the point of divergence. An alternative embodiment intended for underground use provides for apertures to be opened in a protective sheath to expose the individual cores required to be diverted to a local distribution point.

A passive optical network includes a central office providing subscriber signals; a fiber distribution hub including an optical power splitter and a termination field; and a drop terminal. Distribution fibers have first ends coupled to output ports of a drop terminal and second ends coupled to the termination field. A remote unit of a DAS is retrofitted to the network by routing a second feeder cable from a base station to the hub and coupling one the distribution fibers to the second feeder cable. The remote unit is plugged into the corresponding drop terminal port, for example, with a cable arrangement having a sealed wave division multiplexer.

Teachings of the present disclosure relate to a pulling sleeve for pulling a cable through a conduit. The pulling sleeve is mounted over fibers of a fiber optic cable and a plurality of fiber optic connectors associated with the fibers. The pulling sleeve includes an elongated body formed of two mating pieces to include an interior cavity to receive and house the fibers. The two mating pieces may include half-pieces. The elongated body of the pulling sleeve includes a length that extends along a central axis between first and second ends, where the first end of the elongated body includes a pulling eye. Also, the elongated body of the pulling sleeve defines a plurality of axially spaced-apart circumferential notches for enhancing flexibility along its length. The axially spaced-apart circumferential notches enable the elongated body of the pulling sleeve to conform to a curved conduit path.

An optical fiber cable splicing box is provided that can easily connect together optical fiber cables that include a metal wire and an optical fiber. Optical fiber cable splicing box 1 includes a pair of cable holders 3A, 3B aligned in a predetermined direction fixed to a body 2, a mechanical splice 4 that optically connects together ends of optical fibers 91A and 91B, a pair of contact portions 80A and 80B respectively provided on the pair of cable holders 3A and 3B, and a metal plate 5 having conductivity. The contact portions 80A and 80B include a first connecting portion 84c that is electrically connected to metal wires 92a and 92b of optical fiber cables 90A and 90B by penetrating into a jacket 94, and a base portion 83 that is electrically conducting with the first connecting portion 84c and electrically connected to a metal plate 5.

The disclosure provides a mixed-mode temperature measurement communication phase conductor and a temperature measurement communication system. The mixed-mode temperature measurement communication phase conductor includes: a stainless sleeving optical unit and a support line hinged with the stainless sleeving optical unit, wherein an aluminium wire is hinged outside the stainless sleeving optical unit and the support line; the stainless sleeving optical unit includes: multiple single-mode fibres and at least one multi-mode fibre, wherein fibres in the stainless sleeving optical unit are mutually hinged. The disclosure realizes whole-distance temperature measurement of conductor by setting the single-mode fibre to perform communication and the multi-mode fibre to perform temperature measurement.
