摘要： A system architecture is provided for a fixed-head mailpiece printer. The printer includes at least two laterally and longitudinally-spaced print heads for depositing ink on a face surface of a mailpiece. The print system architecture includes print application software or software program code operative to render print image data into a plurality of logical rectangular bitmap print buffers. Further, a field programmable gate array (FPGA) remaps each of the logical rectangular bitmap print buffers into one of the print heads based upon its spatial position relative to the mailpiece. Furthermore, the FPGA is operative to control the deposition of ink from the print heads based upon the print image data contained in the print buffers. Moreover, the FPGA minimizes processing time associated with print image rendering to achieve enhanced print system throughput.

摘要： A high speed mailing system that utilizes a single postal security (PSD) device in conjunction with multiple printing modules is provided. The control unit with which the PSD is associated is coupled to each of the printing modules through a multiplexer capable of switching between each of the printing modules. During initialization of the system for each mail processing session, the control unit establishes a secure communication session with each printing module individually through the multiplexer. Thus, the control unit can generate and provide indicia that can be printed only on the specific printing module that is currently in use. The multiplexer can switch between printing modules during operation of the mailing system, thereby always keeping one printing module in use while allowing the printing module that is not currently being used to perform any necessary maintenance operations, without having to stop the processing of mail pieces.

摘要： A method and device for locking and unlocking a print head assembly along a shaft in an addressing machine. The print head assembly is fixedly mounted on a locking mechanism, which comprises a cylindrical body slideably mounted on the shaft and a cam ring rotatably mounted over the cylindrical body. The cylindrical body has a slot for seating an elongated spline. When the locking mechanism is operated in a locking position, the inner circumference of the cam ring presses the spline against the shaft, preventing the cylindrical body from moving along the shaft. The cam ring has a relief on its inner circumference such that, when the cam ring is rotated to the unlocked position, the spline is partially seated in the relief, thereby reducing the pressure exerted by the spline against the shaft. As such, the position of the print head assembly can be adjusted.

摘要： In a mailing machine including an impression roller, a postage indicia printing drum overhanging the impression roller, and apparatus for rotating the impression roller and drum in timed relationship with one another for feeding a sheet beneath the drum and in printing engagement therewith, wherein the feeding apparatus includes shaft structure on which the impression roller is mounted for rotation therewith, there is provided an improved impression roller. The impression roller comprises: two annularly-shaped inner members made of a soft resilient material, the inner members coaxially mounted side by side on the shaft structure; two annularly-shaped outer member made of a hard resilient material, the outer members coaxially mounted on the inner members; and four annularly-shaped disc members made of a hard resilient material, the disc members coaxially mounted on the shaft structure, each of the disc members dimensioned such that the width thereof is half the width of an outer member, and each of the disc members including a plurality of apertures formed therethrough at equidistantly spaced intervals along a circular line extending coaxially thereof. Preferably, each of the disc members is not more than substantially one-eighth of an inch in width.

For this purpose a security code is generated by an encryption algorithm from a first identification code attached to the print head and from a second identification code stored in a memory unit allocated to the print head, and is compared to a security code that is likewise stored in the memory unit when the print head is manufactured.
