摘要: Techniques described herein relate to generating braille output and/or visual display output based on received mathematical expression input. Data corresponding to one or more mathematical expressions may be received via expression input devices or visual display devices, and may be converted to braille output characters for display on refreshable braille devices. Additionally, mathematical expression input data may be received via refreshable braille display devices and converted to output characters for display on visual display devices. In some embodiments, mathematical expression input data may be converted first to content markup, and then converted from the content markup to presentation markup and/or braille output characters. Further mathematical expression input data, such as updates to previously displayed expressions, may be received from an initial input device, visual display device, or refreshable braille device, and the updated expression data may be converted to visual output characters and/or braille output characters.

摘要: An interactive Braille display apparatus which includes a frame; 3-sided rotating members installed within the frame such that only one side of the 3-sided rotating members is displayed at a time. Each 3-sided rotating member includes a flat side; a first raised portion side having a first raised portion; a second raised portion side having a second raised portion connected to an input device to receive an input from a user, the second raised portion having a height greater than the height of the first raised portion. The apparatus further includes a microprocessor electrically connected to each clickable switch of each second raised portion, the microprocessor detecting when the clickable switch of at least one second raised portion has been depressed by the user and outputting that the clickable switch of the at least one second raised portion has been depressed.

摘要: A system and method of transmitting an authentication code includes automatically calculating a security code on a device executing a security program. The security program may periodically calculate a respective unique security code. In response to a user requesting the security code, the device automatically vibrates according to a pattern representing the security code. The pattern tactilely communicates the security code to the user.

摘要: A computer-based system permitting a visually impaired user to interact with tactile graphic-based interactive software applications is provided. The system includes a host computer having a data processor and a drive for running the interactive software applications and a pressure sensitive work pad. The work pad has X and Y pressure sensitive members disposed in a grid array for providing unique location output signals corresponding to each different location on the grid array. The work pad is operatively connected to the host computer and an overlay comprising a sheet is placed over an upper surface of the work pad. The overlay having a work space which bears tactile indicia which corresponds to a selected one of the interactive software applications and also includes a tactile graphical user interface (TGUI) formed thereon. The TGUI has a plurality of tactile control members which generate location output signals when pressed. These output signals are communicated to the computer which processes the signals as control signals directing the computer to perform an operation. Methods of calibrating the overlays and identifying the overlays are also provided.

摘要: A method of dynamically establishing an auto-advance interval of a refreshable braille display. The method involves the step of establishing a default auto-advance value, during which a full line of braille characters remains displayed on the braille display prior to being replaced by the next line. The method further involves determining whether a current line of braille characters ends with a blank cell or a used cell and calculating the current auto-advance interval based on the number of used cells in the current line. The next line of braille characters is output after the current auto-advance interval has lapsed.

摘要: An automated resource resolver system receives a client request for a learning resource. The system selects a format for a target resource, to be delivered to the client device, based on user information and context information for the client device. Thus, the selected format will be accessible by the client device, utilizing the capabilities of the device, and will be the best-fit format for the user. After the system selects the format, the system determines whether the target resource stored at a resource repository is in the selected format. If not, then the system selects an instance of the target resource, not in the selected format, to convert to the selected format. The system converts the selected resource instance to produce an instance of the target resource that is in the selected format. The system makes the target learning resource, in the selected format, available to the client device.

摘要: In an approach for visually enhancing tactile metadata, a computer receives an image on a first computing device. The computer selects an object from one or more objects depicted within the received image. The computer determines boundaries of the selected object. The computer assigns an object tag to the selected object within the determined boundaries, wherein the assigned object tag includes one or more keywords and terms describing the selected object. The computer assigns tactile metadata to the selected object within the determined boundaries based on one or more physical properties associated with the assigned object tag. The computer creates a visually enhanced image based on the assigned tactile metadata, wherein the assigned tactile metadata includes one or more physical properties associated with the assigned object tag capable of being represented visually.
