The system includes providing a cathode ray tube, a mask frame assembly disposed within the cathode ray tube and at least one magnetic shield disposed on the edge of the mask frame assembly. An internal magnetic shield is joined to a color selection electrode structure including a color selection electrode, a pair of longer side frames supporting the color selection electrode with tension being applied and a pair of shorter side frames joined to the pair of longer side frames. Magnetic shielding members inclined at an inclination angle null (nullnull0null) to a tube axis are provided on lateral surfaces of shorter sides of the internal magnetic shield. Phosphor screen side edges of the magnetic shielding members are located between the color selection electrode and a plane that passes through color selection electrode side ends of the pair of shorter side frames and is perpendicular to the tube axis. In this manner, magnetic shielding characteristics can be improved against not only a transverse magnetic field but a tube axis magnetic field. Consequently, mis-landing of the electron beam caused by terrestrial magnetism can be prevented, thereby providing a cathode ray tube with reduced color displacement in a screen.

A color cathode ray tube having a striped phosphor screen is provided, in which color displacements due to the tube axis (Z-axis) component of the terrestrial magnetism can be decreased at low cost. A positive temperature coefficient thermistor and a degaussing coil are connected in series to an AC power source (AC 100V) via a switch. A rectifier/smoothing circuit is provided in parallel to the positive temperature coefficient thermistor. When the switch is turned on, an ordinary degaussing process due to the AC attenuating magnetic field interlinked to the degaussing coil is performed, and the DC magnetic field in the Y-axis direction interlinked to the degaussing coil decreases the influence of the terrestrial magnetism in the tube axis direction (Z-axis direction).

The cathode ray tube according to the present invention includes a panel having a fluorescent film formed on the inner surface thereof, a shadow mask frame assembly disposed inside the panel, a funnel to which the panel is sealed and having an electron gun installed in a neck portion thereof and a deflection yoke installed around a cone portion thereof, and a magnetic field shielding portion which is installed along the wall of the funnel and includes a metal plate for blocking the influences of terrestrial magnetic fields. In the cathode ray tube according to the present invention, it is possible to block the influences of terrestrial magnetic fields with a magnetic field shielding portion having a simple structure.
