The search unit determines power values of respective taps inside a window based on a signal received via a pilot channel, and classifies the taps into one or more meaningful taps and one or more noise taps. The estimator allocates one or more 1-tap channel estimators to the one or more meaningful taps, and determines a channel estimation vector based on a channel estimation value of the one or more meaningful taps determined by the one or more 1-tap channel estimators.

In one embodiment, the disclosure relates to a method for determining a path loss value between a receiver at a first location and a wireless mobile device at a second location. The method includes the steps of: (a) locating the mobile device at the second location and (b) at the receiver: (i) receiving a first signal transmitted by the mobile device at the second location; (ii) determining a received signal level of the first signal; (iii) receiving a second signal comprising data from which a transmitted signal level of the mobile device at the second location can be determined; and (iv) determining from the first and second signals the path loss value between the receiver and the mobile device at the second location.

    摘要: Techniques to filter pilot symbols for a pilot in an “adaptive” manner to provide an improved estimate of the response of a communication channel. A received signal may experience different channel conditions at different times, and different multipaths may also experience different channel conditions even when received close in time. A pilot filter with an adaptive response is used to provide an improved estimate of the channel response. Various adaptive pilot filtering schemes may be used. In a first scheme, the channel conditions are estimated based on the quality of the received pilot. In a second scheme, the channel conditions are estimated based on the quality of the pilot estimates (i.e., the filtered pilot symbols). For each scheme, a particular filter response is selected based on the estimated quality of either the received pilot or the pilot estimates.
