Abstract: Techniques for operating a wireless network in a plurality of radio operating environments are disclosed. In some embodiments, an apparatus receives a first parameter value set that is selected from a group of multiple parameter value sets, wherein the first parameter value set is appropriate for a first target radio operating environment that corresponds to one or more of: a first level of mobility of user devices or a first range of wireless transmission. In some embodiments, the apparatus is reconfigured to receive wireless broadcast transmissions from a second broadcast transmitter using a second parameter value set that is appropriate for a second target radio operating environment. The first and second broadcast transmitters may be the same or different. The parameter value sets may include a first parameter based upon which the apparatus is configured to determine subcarrier spacing and a second parameter that indicates a cyclic prefix size.

Abstract: Systems and methods providing for dynamic switching between the various waveforms on the downlink are described. Embodiments of a dynamic downlink waveform switching implementation may, for example, support utilization of one or more multiple carrier (MC) waveform (e.g., OFDMA) or other high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) waveform and one or more SC (SC) waveform (e.g., discrete Fourier transform-spread-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM)) or other low PAPR waveform. Dynamic selection of a downlink waveform may be made by an access point based upon various metrics, including relative distance to a served an access terminal and the preference of downlink waveform indicated by a served an access terminal. A downlink waveform selection indication may be signaled from the access point to the served an access terminal using downlink control information (DCI).

Abstract: A wireless communication base station apparatus which is able to prevent deterioration in the throughput of LTE terminals even when LTE terminals and LTE+ terminals coexist. In this apparatus, based on the mapping pattern of the reference signals used only in LTE+ terminals, a setting unit sets, in each subframe, the resource block groups where the reference signals used only by the LTE+ terminals are mapped. For symbols mapped to the antennas, an mapping unit maps, to all the resource blocks within one frame, cell specific reference signals used for both LTE terminals and LTE+ terminals. For the symbols mapped to the antennas, the mapping unit maps, to the plurality of resource blocks, of which part of the resource block groups is comprised, in the same subframe within one frame, the cell specific reference signals used only for LTE+ terminals, based on the setting results inputted from the setting unit.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus in a fifth-generation wireless communications, including an example method, in a wireless device, that includes receiving a downlink signal comprising an uplink access configuration index, using the uplink access configuration index to identify an uplink access configuration from among a predetermined plurality of uplink access configurations, and transmitting to the wireless communications network according to the identified uplink access configuration. The example method further includes, in the same wireless device, receiving, in a first subframe, a first Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transmission formatted according to a first numerology and receiving, in a second subframe, a second OFDM transmission formatted according to a second numerology, the second numerology differing from the first numerology. Variants of this method, corresponding apparatuses, and corresponding network-side methods and apparatuses are also disclosed.
