Abstract: An image recording apparatus includes a feed tray, a feed mechanism feeding a sheet-shaped medium accommodated in the feed tray, and a recording device recording an image on the sheet-shaped medium fed by the feed mechanism. The feed tray includes a first accommodation portion accommodating a roll, in which the sheet-shaped medium is rolled, a pair of side walls interposing the sheet-shaped medium unrolled from the roll in a first direction parallel to an axis of the roll, and a side guide disposed inside the pair of side walls and having an inner-side surface contactable with an edge in the first direction of the first sheet-shaped medium unrolled from the roll. The side guide has a metal portion made of metal, the metal portion forming at least part of the inner-side surface.

Abstract: An image reading apparatus includes a reading unit including a reading sensor to read image information from a sheet through a transparent portion. The reading unit is movable with respect to a frame of the apparatus and is urged by an urging member toward a facing member facing the transparent portion. A fixed guide fixed to the frame is disposed in adjacent to the reading unit in the sheet conveyance direction. A plurality of protruded portions provided on either one of the reading unit and the fixed guide, and a plurality of recessed portions provided on the other of the reading unit and the fixed guide and formed so as to engage with the plurality of the protruded portions. The reading unit is movable with the plurality of the protruded portions loosely fit with the plurality of the recessed portions.

Abstract: An image reading apparatus according to an embodiment includes an image reading unit that generates reference data by reading a reference surface and generates image data by reading a sheet. A reference plate includes the reference surface for generating the reference data for shading correction of the image reading unit and a background surface for background of a sheet to be read to generate the image data. A control unit controls the positions of the image reading unit and the reference plate to be at a first position relative to each other when the reference data is to be generated and at a second position relative to each other when the image data is to be generated. The second position is different from the first position. A shading correction unit performs the shading correction in the image reading unit based on the generated reference data.

Abstract: A printer includes a printing unit, a casing, a scanner unit disposed in an upper portion of the casing, and a discharge unit that, below the scanner unit, is connected to the casing pivotably between a closed position and an open position and that a sheet of paper is discharged to. The discharge unit includes a placement surface for the sheet and a medium support unit capable of supporting the sheet from below while in a state of being protruded from the placement surface. The medium support unit is displaceable between a maximum protruded position and a minimum protruded position. When the amount of protrusion of the medium support unit from the placement surface when the discharge unit is in the open position is less than the amount of protrusion of the medium support unit in the maximum protruded position from the placement surface.
