Abstract: A method and system for micro-cloud computing is described. An application serving node, which is a specifically configured piece of customer premises equipment such as a set-top box, is the server for a micro-cloud network. Various user devices that form part of the micro-cloud network, such as television sets and smart phones, communicate with the application serving node. The application serving node is configured with software that allows various heterogeneous types of data to be obtained and streamed to the user devices in multiple ways. The application serving node performs much of the processing necessary for such content streaming itself and thus represents an edge-based network architecture.

Abstract: A local content server system (LCS) for creating a secure environment for digital content is disclosed, which system comprises: a communications port in communication for connecting the LCS via a network to at least one Secure Electronic Content Distributor (SECD), which SECD is capable of storing a plurality of data sets, is capable of receiving a request to transfer at least one content data set, and is capable of transmitting the at least one content data set in a secured transmission; a rewritable storage medium whereby content received from outside the LCS may be stored and retrieved; a domain processor that imposes rules and procedures for content being transferred between the LCS and devices outside the LCS; and a programmable address module which can be programmed with an identification code uniquely associated with the LCS. The LCS is provided with rules and procedures for accepting and transmitting content data.

Abstract: A universal serial bus (USB) dongle device includes a USB interface for receiving a video signal in a first format and for sending a processed video signal in a second format wherein the first format differs from the second format. An encoding module generates the processed video signal based on the video signal. In a further embodiment, A video card includes a video receiver for receiving a video signal in a first format, based on a selection command. An encoding module generates a processed video signal in a second format based on the video signal, wherein the first format differs from the second format. A USB interface transfers the processed video signal to the host device, receives the selection command from the host device and receives a power signal from the host device to power the video receiver and the encoding module.

Abstract: An embedded system for video processing comprises hardware means for realising the following functions: a server function by: receiving of at least one image-, at least one audio-data stream; compression of at least one of the image- and audio-data streams yielding in each case a combined data stream respectively; output of at least one of the combined data streams via a protocol based network; a client function by: receiving of at least one combined data stream from the protocol based network; decompression of the at least one combined data stream; output of the combined decompressed image- and audio-data stream; wherein the hardware means are designed in such a way that they compress and decompress a continuous combined data stream and the hardware means for realising the server function and the client function are arranged on a joint circuit board.

Abstract: A media processing device includes a key store memory to store a plurality of cryptographic keys and a rule set memory to store a plurality of rules for the plurality of cryptographic keys. The media processing device further includes an integrity module to determine a first cyclical redundancy check (CRC) value from the plurality of rules stored in the rule set memory and compare the first CRC with a second CRC value associated with the plurality of rules. The media processing device further includes an arbitration module to prevent further access to the plurality of rules in the rule set memory responsive to the integrity verification module signaling a mismatch between the first CRC and the second CRC.
