    摘要: The present invention provides a solution to the problems of performing transformation functions on data originating in gamma space and part of systems that do not use, or are not intended to use, gamma correction schemes. The invention provides additional stages to a transform block used by a transform function. In the scheme of the invention, each input sample has a degamma function (inverse gamma) applied to it to transform it from gamma space to linear space, prior to the transform block. The degamma function is such as to approximate the transfer function of a typical monitor. After the transform operation is applied at the transform block to produce a result, a gamma function is applied to the result to return the sample to gamma space so that the output sample is ready for further processing.

    摘要: The automatic cut-off system includes a video data processing circuit, a cut-off control circuit, a drive circuit, and a level control section. The video data processing circuit adds a cut-off reference pulse having a predetermined level to primary-color signals of red (R), green (G) and blue (B) at different timings within a single vertical blanking interval, and outputs latch timing signals respectively indicating the timings. The cut-off control circuit shifts a level of each primary-color signal having the cut-off reference pulse added thereto based on a corresponding cut-off control signal. The drive circuit drives each cathode of a CRT (cathode-ray tube) based on a corresponding one of the shifted primary-color signals, and outputs a voltage corresponding to each cathode current as a common feedback signal. The level control section latches the feedback signal in response to each latch timing signal, and outputs the cut-off control signal of one of the primary-color signals.

Gamma correction is carried out in the circuit. The circuit may be of analog or digital construction and may advantageously be integrated in a video processor IC. The present circuit is particularly applicable for television sets or computer monitors.

    摘要: A system and method of compensating for the effects of aging of phosphors and faceplate upon color accuracy in cathode ray tubes, wherein beam current measurements are made upon individual cathodes of a cathode ray tube to sample the individual beam currents at periodic intervals. The sum-totals of the individual beam current measurements are then stored in a non-volatile memory location. Correction factors are calculated for both luminous efficiency degradation and for deviations in hue, based on the stored sum-total beam current measurements in combination with empirically-derived formulae. These correction factors are then used to calculate corrected tristimulus values X, Y, and Z. The corrected tristimulus values are used to calculate the amount of beam current necessary to compensate for color degradation of the cathode ray tube. Finally, the respective gains of the video amplifiers are adjusted to achieve the amount of beam current necessary to compensate for the effects of aging of the cathode ray tube.

During the time that the CRT beam is retracing vertically, each subsystem imposes a fixed, predetermined voltage on a cathode in the cathode ray tube, samples the current flowing to the cathode, compares the sampled current to a predetermined, desired reference current for the cathode, develops a differential signal representing the difference, if any, between the sampled current and the reference current, and then drives the current flowing to the cathode from its actual value to its predetermined, reference value so as to maintain a predetermined, desired ratio of the currents flowing to each of the cathodes.

    摘要: Excessive peak beam currents conducted by a kinescope in a color television receiver are limited by apparatus which compares the combined instantaneous magnitudes of plural color signals with a fixed threshold and, if exceeding the threshold, the combined signal is detected. The detected signal is used to limit the magnitudes of the color signals, thereby limiting excessive kinescope beam currents otherwise developed in response to the color signals. The apparatus is used in the receiver together with a more conventional automatic kinescope beam current limiter of the type which operates in conjunction with a kinescope resupply current source.

The control circuit includes automatic kinescope bias (AKB) control circuitry for detecting a magnitude of individual red (R), green (G) and blue (B) cathode currents driving corresponding R, G and B CRTs, generating R, G and B average cathode current control signals therefrom, and using the R, G and B average cathode current control signals as feedback to the video processor to reduce the R, G and B cathode currents approximately equal current amounts. Selective beam current limiting circuitry within the control circuitry compares at least one of the R, G and B average current control signals with a predetermined signal, and whereupon the at least one of the R, G and B average current control signals exceeds the predetermined signal, introducing a gain reduction in corresponding video gain stages within the video processor to limit the at least one of the R, G and B average current control signals.
