摘要： A structural unit, e.g., a tie rod, that has a tube which is provided with an internal thread, on at least one surface thereof, which is threaded in a first rotational direction, and into the end of which a threaded sleeve is screwed. The threaded sleeve has an internal thread which is threaded in a second direction, opposite to the first rotational direction, and has a shank screwed into the sleeve. The entire threaded sleeve is accommodated within the tube, and the threaded sleeve has a coupling contour on the opening side of the tube. A method of applying the structural unit such that, by rotating the threaded sleeve within the tube, the shank and the tube are moved in opposite directions. In the method, the coupling contour of the threaded sleeve serves to introduce the torque required for rotational motion of the threaded sleeve by way of a tool or an adapter.

摘要： A turnbuckle is made by a method including preparing an iron tube having a longitudinal through-hole. A diameter of each of two ends of the iron tube is reduced to form a coupling section having an engaging hole, with an interconnecting section interconnected between the coupling sections. The interconnecting section is punched in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal through-hole to form a transverse through-hole perpendicular to the longitudinal through-hole and between the coupling sections, leaving two opposite peripheral wall portions spaced by the transverse through-hole and forming a bend extending inward from each of two end edges of each peripheral wall portion into the longitudinal through-hole. An abutting portion is formed between each bend and one of the end edges of one of the peripheral wall portions. Inner threading is formed in the engaging hole of each coupling section.

摘要： A latch for a link assembly is disclosed. The link assembly has (i) an internally threaded sleeve and (ii) an externally threaded rod positioned within the internally threaded sleeve so that the externally threaded rod is meshingly engaged with the internally threaded sleeve. The latch includes a handle portion operable between a lock mode and an unlock mode, wherein when the handle portion is (i) in the lock mode relative rotation between the internally threaded sleeve and the externally threaded rod is prevented and (ii) in the unlock mode relative rotation between the internally threaded sleeve and the externally threaded rod is allowed. The latch also includes an engagement portion secured to the handle portion. The engagement portion is (i) detached from the link assembly so that the engagement portion can be spaced apart from the link assembly and (ii) configured to engage a segment of the link assembly such that when (1) the handle portion is in the unlock mode and (2) the segment of the link assembly is engaged with the engagement portion, rotation of the handle portion around a longitudinal axis of the link assembly causes relative rotation between the internally threaded sleeve and the externally threaded rod. An associated method of adjusting the length of a link assembly is also disclosed.

摘要： The invention is an improvement in a machine such as a surface mining "shovel" having an arm, a bucket-like digging dipper and a brace. The latter is used to maintain a selected "rake angle" between the arm and the dipper. The brace has first and second end lugs and extends between the arm and the dipper. The improvement comprises a tube-like collar interposed between and connecting the lugs. At least the first end lug is positionally adjustable with respect to the collar so that the "rake angle" between the arm and the dipper may be readily selected. In a highly preferred embodiment, each end lug is threaded to an opposite end of the collar and better "vernier" adjustment of the rake angle results.

In the case of a bow mounted strap, the bow-eye, which is in the form of a U-bolt, extends through the bow and a pair of apertures in the strap and is secured thereto by means of nuts which clamp the strap to the bow.

摘要： A unitary lockable turnbuckle constructed from an elongated member, which is partially slit at two axially spaced-apart locations so as to form an interconnected barrel with a nut at each end. A thread is formed in each nut and the adjacent portion of the barrel, the thread at one end being of opposite hand from the thread at the other end. The slits leave reduced shear sections which break when the nuts are sufficiently torqued in opposition to the barrel. Preferably the width of the slit is reduced substantially to zero before the thread is formed.
