Abstract: A marker system includes an enclosure with a controller therewithin. Emitters are electrically interfaced to the controller and include visible wavelength emitters and infrared wavelength emitters. The controller is configured to selectively initiate a flow of electric current though the visible wavelength emitters or through the infrared wavelength emitters causing the visible wavelength emitters or the infrared wavelength emitters to emit light and the light passes through the enclosure. There is at least one infrared detector, each of which is electrically interfaced to the controller and each of which is configured to detect infrared light that enters the enclosure. When the controller receives an electrical signal from any of the at least one infrared detector indicating reception of infrared light, the controller emits a signal to warn of the reception of infrared light (e.g., an audible signal, a vibration, a wireless signal, a wired signal).

Abstract: An augmented-reality device is used with a surveying system to guide a base station, such as a total station, during relock after loss of line of sight with a surveying instrument, such as a surveying pole with a reflective prism. A position of the surveying instrument in relation to the augmented-reality device is calculated while an object in the environment blocks line of sight from the base station to the surveying instrument. A position of the surveying instrument in relation to the environment is calculated based on the position of the surveying instrument in relation to the augmented-reality device. The position of the surveying instrument in relation to the environment is used by the base station to point toward to the surveying instrument.

Abstract: A head-worn system has one or more illumination, imaging, communication, and/or other controlled elements electrically connected to a switch element (e.g., a piezo switch) positioned on the head-worn system so as to be overlying an area of a wearer's masseter muscle when worn on the wearer's person. The switch element is configured to be activated responsive to clenching of the wearer's jaw. The one or more controlled elements may be arranged to provide directional lighting/imaging from the point of view of the wearer, for example from the area of the wearer's zygomatic bones, when the head-worn system is worn on the wearer's person.

Abstract: A brain injury reduction system provides a protective measure to reduce severity of brain injury caused by collision or blast. A sensing device of the system detects an impending or occurring event (e.g., collision or blast) in an environment surrounding the individual and sends information about the event to a controller of the system. The sensing device can be stationary or moves with the individual. Based on the information, the controller determines whether the event will likely cause brain injury to the individual. If so, the controller sends an instruction to an actuation device of the system to activate the protective measure. The actuation device uses transcutaneous electrodes to electrically simulate glottis closure and contraction of the abdominal musculature to induce a Valsalva-like maneuver. The Valsalva-like maneuver can increases the stiffness of the brain tissues in the intracranial compartment, and thus reduces the susceptibility of the brain tissues to deformation.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a hard hat, comprising: a rigid outer shell, a vibration transducer secured to the exterior of the rigid outer shell, the vibration transducer operative to vibrate the rigid outer shell when active; and a control system coupled to the hard hat, the control system further operably coupled to the vibration transducer such that the control system controls vibration of the vibration transducer. The control system converts received audio communication into a signal sent to the vibration transducer such that activation of the vibration transducer results in vibration of the rigid outer shell, with the rigid outer shell thereby acting as a harmonic resonance acoustic chamber replicating the received audio communication. A kit for converting a hard hat and a method of communication are also disclosed.

Abstract: A programming device includes an application for programming vehicle function settings of a vehicle. The programming device has a transmitter that communicates the vehicle function settings through a vehicle receiver to a vehicle controller. The vehicle function settings cause the controller to operate the vehicle when a device identifier is received from a moveable device associated with a vehicle user.

Abstract: A personal protection system for providing a sterile barrier around medical/surgical personnel. The system includes a helmet over which a hood or a toga suspended. The helmet has a chin bar that extends forward of the face of the individual wearing the system. At least one manually actuated control for regulating one aspect of operation of the system is mounted to the chin bar. Sometimes the control is a button that is depressed to control the operation of a helmet mounted fan that draws air into the hood or toga. A microphone may also be mounted to the chin bar.

Abstract: A surgical protection system to define a barrier between the user and the external environment. The surgical protection system comprising a helmet assembly, a hood and a transparent face shield. The helmet including a shell, a face frame coupled to the shell, a static tab, a first fastener disposed on the face frame; and a fan mounted to the shell and configured to circulate air about the user. The hood may include a first material defining an opening. The shield may be formed from flexible material and disposed within the opening of the hood. The shield may further include a tab extending from a top portion of the shield and define an opening configured to receive the static tab of the helmet to align the shield to the helmet. The first fastener disposed on the face frame may be configured to facilitate removable attachment of the shield to the helmet.

Abstract: Headgear includes one or more sensors that provide input information to a controller of the headgear. The sensors may include accelerometers, location sensors, wireless receivers, cameras, and so on. The controller may receive the input information that is indicative of an orientation of the headgear, a location of the headgear, a communication signal, and/or an image or video. The headgear may also include one or more output devices that may be controlled by the controller (e.g., actuators, electronic displays, lights, speakers, and/or communication interfaces). As such, the headgear may output instructions to actuate an actuator, display an image on an electronic display, activate a light, emit a sound using a speaker, and/or send a communication signal using a communication interface. In particular, the headgear may determine an instruction to send to an output device in response to receiving the input information, and send the instruction to the output device.
