The user moves the floor treatment device over the surface to be treated during an adjustment process, wherein a limiting device parameter, which is dependent on the nature of the surface and upon its use for the treatment of the surface leads to a predefined fault, is automatically determined during the movement of the floor treatment device, and wherein the parameter range is automatically adjusted based on the determined limiting device parameter which defines a range end of the parameter range.
